USC 2024 Appeals

@CADREAMIN @WWWard do you know if people whose appeals are successful-- is it still possible for them to get scholarships (like the morks scholarship)? Like are successful appeals reconsidered for scholarships and financial aid?

@kaylaoberoi Any admitted student can be considered for financial aid, but decisions regarding the major merit awards were made in January. Reconsideration for those is not possible. It may be possible for those who qualify for the Deans… i.e. NMF.

@Erventa Last year DS was admitted into his selected major for Fall from the appeal

I just got off the waitlist for NYU today and I can’t go because they only gave me approx. $8000 in loans (NYU costs over $78000, not even a dent). Does anyone know if USC is more forgiving and actually considers appeal student for reasonable grants? Not just loans?

I emailed the office of admissions and they stated that appeals will come out on the 10th instead of the 8th.

However the portal still says the 8th.

I just thought this information would be helpful.

@CADREAMIN @WWWard

@studyybug thanks for sharing but doesn’t it sound a little strange that they would release appeals decisions on a Sunday?

@tacticalmom I agree! It is kinda weird for it to be on a Sunday, but I got off the UCLA waitlist on a Saturday. So I guess weekends aren’t off-limits anymore.

I was looking at the thread from last year, and the decisions came out on the 9th starting in the morning all the way to the late evening, which was a day earlier than it was supposed to come out from my understanding.

I’m still hopeful for the 8th, or for them to at least send out an email if the date did change. It would be nice to know, especially since we are so close to the date.

oh my gosh me too!!! the total coa is $80k but the business school is so good but id definitely drop it for usc, usc is the only school id drop it for

i also emailed my admissions counselor today and she said we would get a decision ā€˜on email by may 8th’ so idk when its coming out, hopefully not on sunday/ mothers day

@CADREAMIN would you have any idea as to why they might have pushed back the appeal date from the 8th to the 10th? Do you think that could be a sign that they are possibly accepting more students? You seem to be very knowledgeable!

I also just got off the NYU waitlist and there’s a 72 hour response window, and I was hoping to wait until I heard back from USC, but now it’s shifted to the 10th? Is that actually true?

Agreed @studyybug, let’s hope it’s still the 8th. They probably will send out an email or something if they need more time.

yes @aliens20 are you going to wait until the 8th at least then? i will probably commit friday if it is the 10th and i dont get a response from usc on the 9th

Can’t you commit to whatever other school, and then, if you get into USC, abandon your spot there and commit to USC? I am thinking the tradition is that you can do that if you are going to the school with a later acceptance date.

what time are decisions usually released? all throughout the day?

I think they are doing the usual ā€œstorytellingā€ and pushing it more forward than the actual release day - people that call or email always get a future date given to them. An email or answer on the phone is never more reliable than posted date. Frankly, if my department publicly posted the 8th to release information but people kept calling or emailing when I was really busy asking, ā€œWhat day will it be released?ā€ tbh, I would probably start messing with them too.

It does not mean more are accepted. They already know who and how many.

re the conversation above, I don’t think the issue is committing then pulling it back if offered something better, it’s committing and having to pay a non-refundable deposit at some schools.

The deposit is what, $200-$400? The COA is much more than $70,000 per year in any of these schools. And it is the place where you’ll spend several next years of your life, and the school which most probably will be listed on your resume for the rest of your life. Sometimes it is worth extra few hundred dollars, even if you have to borrow them to give yourself assurance of ending up at your #2, with the hope of #1, if you are currently committed to your #3… Otherwise you may end up at #3, and not #2 or #1.

@gabriellean If admitted, USC will process a financial aid request exactly the same as for any other admitted student. Good luck…

NYU deposit is $500, if @aliens and others don’t have to throw that away committing a day before they commit to USC, that’s a good thing.
