My D23 was deferred EA and when regular decisions came out, she was accepted as a Spring admit. We didn’t t even know that was an option!
She spent the fall semester studying in London in one of USC’s study abroad program along with other spring admits. (There were about 40 in her program.). She was able to knock out some GE credits and had a fantastic semester. Already knowing other Spring admits definitely helped with the transition of starting in January.
Often scholarship deadlines are before decisions are out.
(It could also have been in error as the Alumni scholarship list may not be connected to the “admit” list but rather sent to everyone who applied.
I agree. This is often the case, especially with alumni associations.
They ask for applications early so that, as soon as admission decisions are released, they can start reading applications and notifying scholarship recipients.
Students do not need to wait until they are accepted to apply to some alumni scholarships. All applications will be read and considered.
Alumni scholarship are awarded over summer, usually in June. Students probably will not be able to consider the extra scholarship in their decisions before the May 1st.
Are the spring admits allowed to rush in January?
I have heard really positive things about being a spring admit if you do something where you meet others in the same boat. The students get close to each other and take classes that transfer - sometimes at community colleges near USC.
D24 who was deferred also received email from USC admissions regarding alumni scholarships. Which scholarships are you referring to that do not require admittance or enrollment? D24 would like to apply.
No, they are not, but they are allowed to COB in the fall.
There shouldn’t be any scholarships from the college that don not require admittance or enrollment.
You do not be admitted to apply for some of the alumni scholarships. You do need to be enrolled to receive them. Here are the Alumni Scholarships that freshman students can apply to before they are admitted.
Do you know if they have the same timeline this year?
It would be cool if applicants could indicate interest in Spring Admission. I’ve heard that Spring Admission is generally offered to children of alums, but I don’t know if there are statistics available that bear that out.
I don’t know if it will be the same this year but I’m assuming it will be. These scholarships were available for non admitted students to apply to last year as well. My son applied to and received the SCion Scholarship last year as a continuing student and he didn’t find out until well into July. I also know that Latino Alumni Association Scholarship awardees were not announced until July or August.
You used to be able to apply for the SCion scholarship as an incoming freshman. I don’t know why that changed.
Thank you. This was helpful.
I don’t know the history of SCion. My son matriculated in Fall 2022 then applied for the scholarship in Spring 23. That’s the extent of my knowledge of SCion.
Are the recruited athletes required to apply EA? Or is there some other process for them? Any stats on the recruited athletes admitted EA and RD?
I am not exactly sure, but I would suspect a unique process for them versus an EA requirement. I have yet to see any specific stats related to recruited athletes.
My kid found out today via email that he got into WBB!
