UT Austin Class of 2025 — Regular Decision

I have no idea, but maybe they ended up not giving certain auto admits their first choice major because they already anticipated such strong applicants to go to an even higher level school instead of UT?

That stinks for those auto admits who had UT Austin as their first choice though and were denied their major:(

I agree that there is definitely a better choice meant for you if that did happen~ if you are an auto admit you are EXTREMELYYYY QUALIFIED🤩

AAs don’t get rejected since they are essentially admitted, but this really hurts… maybe even more than straight up rejection because we worked hard for this.

I hear you, I understand exactly what you are saying. You kids worked so hard and gave up so much to get a fair shake. I have a daughter who is in the same boat as you. I know it is easy to say for those of us who are not in your shoes, but believe me very bright future awaits smart and driven kids like you and my daughter. Know that all of us adults are rooting for you!

Pretty sure UT is practicing some type of yield protection. I speak from what I heard from my auto admit friends last year (not an AO so this can all be crap). Many of them applied to UT cockerel and Mccombs with amazing stats but ultimately either went to rice, Cornell, umichigan where they were offered much better aid and prestige, and the other half went to A&M/ UTD engineering because of the generous merit aid they got even with their acceptances. UT had a small dip in enrollment last year and many rejections, so I predict that UT is trying to accept those that they know will enroll at UT if accepted

i thought public schools don’t practice yield

I believe there are many who are holding the spot since December and may be not planning to go to UT.

I don’t know. My friends got rejected from A&M engineering last year with a 1500. Idk what that is if that’s not yield protection, could be something else

that is really unfair!

Our kids will do great in life!

Top 6% means absolutely nothing. Truly. Read about all of those professional paid consultant people who have actually worked at admissions at UT. Top 6%, yes, they will ahem “admit” you to UT. But not really. You are not really admitted.
–McCombs?
–Cockrell?
–any science or math?
– nursing?
Does anyone not see that top 6% just means admissions. But not REALLY admissions. Just admissions to majors most will not want.

I don’t think that’s how it works. RD will most likely find out in a wave soon.

Crazy how she got rejected from both. I got accepted to Biochem and she has all better stats than me. College acceptances are truly so random.

We’re OOS, so not familiar with all the in state workings, but… what if those LA majors are just place holders, until they can get RD figured out and those who will withdraw, and THEN put you (or at least some) into your chosen major? Perhaps it’s their way of accepting all AA’s, but not yet fully placing you.

Hey everyone I’m new here, but does anyone know if ANY non-aa’s were admitted today?

None of my non-aa friends have received any updates. From what I’ve read so far, I don’t think anyone was actually accepted today.

There might be no AA spots left in your major, because they save a percentage of major admits for RD. That’s my guess!

Unfortunately for some kids with UT it is not only about stats, even though many people think it is. They look at the applications very holistically. Essays really matter there, ECs really matter. Rigor really matters. And, at the end of the day, they can’t put every top ranked kid in Texas in the major of their choice. Every year there are kids that want to go into certain Engineering majors, or CS, or McCombs, but there are hundreds of kids just like them. It’s a hard pill to swallow for some. I’ve seen it every year on the parent pages - parents hurt, shocked and angry when their kids don’t get admitted. Rightfully so. This year is no exception, but it is worse this year when many kids want to stay in state and money is also an issue for a lot of people. You can’t beat the price of UT if you’re a Texas resident. There’s no reason to go elsewhere when you’re getting that kind of education. But it hurts for many kids. Bottom line though, is even with auto admit, these kids may not be in their majors, but they still have the option to attend UT and attempt to transfer, because there will be a lot of openings later on, which is still an opportunity that many OOS students will never get.

When OOS comes out in the next few days to a week for the last of the priority applicants, there will also be a lot of unhappy kids.

These kids are all stars. They’re just victims of lousy circumstances this year.

My daughter is non-AA and was accepted into nursing today. I was scared to post because I know there are a lot of deflated AA seniors out there. I’m sorry…
