UT Austin Class of 2025 — Regular Decision

Can you use Hazlewood at private schools or just public? Any other kids that could use it?

If someone has scholarships to make SMU only a few thousand more than UT, it’s a fabulous option. Beautiful campus, small classes, easy to switch between all majors except Cox. Similar Greek system to UT. Increasingly diverse. My DD is a freshman and loves it. I mentor undergrad and grad Cox students and my Dallas area employers have recruited at SMU and UT.

Only public schools… SMU is a great pick for him; close to home… but 70,000!!! How do they do it?

I doubt if any engineering applicants do CAP because you are not guaranteed engineering major, only COLA. If you are engineering, you should go to your next best option and try to transfer to UT after a year if you still want to try for UT, but it’s still hard to transfer.

Did anyone get PACE and CAP tonight? My son got both, but is not as disappointed because with PACe you still have all the perks of a full time UT student.

i think a lot of people on the reddit did

@BRAVE12345 about 70% at SMU get aid. They offer a lot of merit aid to top candidates and also offer grants, work study and loans. If the EFC isn’t doable, an in-State public option with honors college is great. I went to UH Honors College and then private grad school on my own. You have Hazlewood which is a special benefit.

Ok, thank you so much!!! Definitely will consider this.

Thank you for reply; SMU only 5,500. That’s it. Hazelwood not option for SMU; Hunt Scholarship pending… otherwise, this Eagle Scout, legacy, 43 college hour HS Senior got really nothing to show. He got admitted, Rhtunda Program… but no conical help… any guidance?

If we got capped… could we request pace?

I don’t think so, you could try to appeal and mention something about PACE. Reddit and all these sites are saying it’s only a select few students, and very few spots are given. It’s worth a try though!

Political Science Major; CAPPED…need to attend UTA if UT in the crosshairs; thoughts… TTU, LSU honors College;?UNT & UTD accepted (honors college pending), SMU accepted (Hunt Scholarship still out there) 43 dual credits earned… CAP UT worth it? Using Hazelwood too. Thoughts

SMU only offered $5500 per year?

If your son is political science, commute (?) to UTA or go to another CAP option and transfer into UT. That major is perfect for CAP and so is Hazlewood. Save $ for law/grad school if that’s the goal.

There is no guarantee that you or whoever will be able to get one of the “limited” spots for the CAP contract for UTA or UTSA, so I think it’s best to focus on those other stellar options. Good luck!

did anyone else send them aggressive emails cursing them out? no? just me? k

You might want to confirm with your school that you indeed were ranked top 6.0%. Mistakes… although it’s rare, it can happen. That would be a strong ground for an appeal.

Yes. SMU offered only 5,500. Applied to Hunt Program as he is Eagle Scout/great Merit/good scores to get in SMU. Yes. PS major; TTU / LSU Honors. +scholarships. UNT, UTD accepted (Honors pending). UT is a great PS (Govt) school… but going to UTA worth it? He has 43 dual credit hours; but CAP restricts the hours. It defeats the dual credit done over HS. Thoughts? Hazelwood could be used anywhere (UTA, TTU, UNT,UTD, etc.) yet not SMU… your non bias option?

my son too ! Any one got PACE?

Not worth the effort. CAP is 30 credit hour minimum plus UTA (& UTSA) you have to do a 5-week summer term. 70+ plus credits after a year via CAP.

My son got PACE, IS that worth it ?

PACE is great. What major? You pay ACC tuition mostly… since it’s part time UT. it’s a good deal and you’re a longhorn.
