UT Austin Class of 2025 — Regular Decision

My son got capped from McCombs and we are in state Non AA. Going to deny “cap” and look/wait for other options. 34 ACT. He already got into SMU but UT is the one he really wanted to go. Good luck with your search.

just got capped today, so sorry to everyone else who is devastated. I was accepted to northeastern in Boston though which has a way better polysci program, maybe I’ll meet the forty acres for law school one day

anyone else deferred not CAPd from education?

CAP is definitely not worth it for CS. It only makes sense for people who want a COLA major. Any of the more difficult/competitive majors, it does not make sense and you have to apply as a transfer student anyway-you do not get guaranteed admission. He should go to A&M or SMU and if he still wants to try for UT, fill out a transfer application from A&M or SMU, or maybe he likes A&M or SMU so much by then he doesn’t want to go to UT anymore.

was he in state or oos

I don’t remember exactly but I think she got her AA in October and her notification about public health came within a few weeks. End of October/Early November at the latest…now we are just anxiously awaiting news about CNS honors…

Poly Sci Major; CAPPED… UTA only option if UT in the crosshairs; your group thoughts… TTU, LSU honors College accepted; UNT & UTD accepted (honors college pending), SMU accepted (Hunt Scholarship still out there) 43 dual credits earned… CAP UT worth it? Using Hazelwood too

What is CS?

computer science

Same boat. SAT 1560, top public high school, IB…CAPed. So disappointed and frustrated.

Bio major; capped. In state non-auto even though I was top 6 percent end of junior year and first semester senior year. 33 ACT, 4.0 and 5.25 GPA. Kinda surprised, but I guess they had a lot of applicants. Bummer.

Congratulations, NEU is a fantastic school. My daughter got into UT OOS and deferred at NE. Go figure. This whole process is nuts and you should be super proud of that acceptance!!

CAPed. CNS. I just read that this may not be the best route for those who intend to major in STEM. Only Liberal Arts majors are guaranteed acceptance; for STEM Majors, a transfer application is needed. So my line of thought is, why go to a CAP participating school that was not in my original list, without guarantees, and having to apply as a transfer. Why not just go to another choice school and apply as a transfer? (That is if I really want to move to UT Austin which at this point is a big ???)

Same doubts for us as well. My son also got capped and engineering major. So he is not guaranteed admission and so he has to apply like any other transfer student. Is my understanding right? So this will be just like him doing in any college and applying for transfer. So no specific advantage of taking cap offer. Correct me if I am wrong please

That is my understanding.

My son - OOS (CA), McCombs, 4.7/4.0, 1500 SAT, started his own business, 4 year athlete, many extracurriculars, denied today. He is really disappointed, as it was his first rejection, but I honestly think it’s for the best. He was accepted to UNC Chapel Hill, Michigan, Georgia, Tennessee, TCU, Indiana, and Clemson, so I think he will definitely end up where he is supposed to be, as will ALL of the talented people here who received disappointing news today! Hang in there, everyone!!

in state, no class rank therefore nonauto

The main reason will be your son will most likely get 4.0GPA in cap school, especially if your D or S already had a lot of AP and IB. Going to A&M (or other competitive school) is harder (but still doable) to get 4.0GPA in STEM.

My son was capped in few years back, he went to A&M. He did apply transfer at the end of Freshman as he got a rare 4.0GPA in A&M honor STEM, but by the time came he ended up declining UT transfer and chose to stay. He is now working in Austin and taking MS in UT.

So it really doesn’t matter which college to go for undergraduate study, the student needs to continue to work hard in college.
