UT Austin Class of 2025 — Regular Decision

@aggrad91, there have been several review admits but I haven’t kept count. There have been a couple of trickles of acceptances it seems but no big “wave” yet. Everybody is looking toward the week around January 18th week (I think?) for the big wave of review admits. It seems really random this year (ie, not Fridays at 5 pm like last year) so have your son check his portal every so often. The email acceptance comes a day or so later. What major is your son?

I know out of all the CNS honors programs, Polymathic is the newest and I could be completely wrong, but I’m under the impression it is somewhat the easiest to get into. I know some people who apply for Deans or Health Science may be given a spot for Polymathic instead. Other than that, there’s not much information online about size or acceptance rate. I’m in state and don’t really know anything about how it compares for out of state people unfortunately.

As I understand it, if you applied prior to November 1, you are guaranteed a decision by February 1, which may be a deferral to March 1. However, is it the case that if you’re deferred in January to March 1, your chances of admission go down considerably? I’d love to get some insight on that. Thanks.

I have no insight at all, while I would imagine deferred candidates to be at lower priority during the RD cycle. They probably only get looked at unless there are not enough qualified students in the RD pool.

@Slynovaninja and @mbt2025, come join us over on the “University of Texas at Austin Class of 2025 After you’ve been accepted…Q&A” page. KaYoung2025 posted about how UT determines honors over there. Hopefully, honors acceptances will start rolling out soon and people will post over there. Just trying to make it less stressful on this page for people waiting to hear about acceptances…

Curious do you get notified by email or by your portal?

My daughter applied 10/29, 1st Major Government & 2nd Major Rhetoric & Writing. Hoping to get some good news in next wave. She has had great communication w/her admissions counselor. She is top 11% at rigorous academic hs, 3.89 GPA, very strong EC/School activities. Believe she had some great essays. However did not submit test scores. She has been admitted to Baylor, Missouri, LSU and Ohio State. So she has good back up options but her top choice is UT.

What do you mean by “RD” ?

RD = Regular Decision

Have there been any acceptances on any day besides Thursday or Friday?

As far as I can remember, I don’t think so - not this year at least.

This year school starts on Jan19th, so some guess the major wave likely be Jan 21-22 Thurs/Friday.

This is what happened in 2020.

• January 10 to 17 saw smaller batches of releases

• The major final wave of favorable decisions went out Tuesday,
January 21, 2020

I know people who got in last Tuesday so this year they’ve been all over the place.

That is true. Remember, anything may happen in 2020, what a year! It’s 2021 now, lol

School actually starts different for many districts. I start today. I think we can expect the waves to come on a similar schedule to the 2020 waves, since they’ve been pretty spot on so far. Probably a mini wave this Friday/Thursday, one next Thursday/Friday, and a big one any day of the week after that.

@ntexastu I think @friscodad was talking about school at UT starting on 1/19, not high school starting. Regardless, when UT starts has nothing to do with decisions, since some came out last week and UT was not in session.
