Just now figured Stanford Requires the “courses and Grades” section tab, not UT and TAMU. I didn’t know this when I posted the question. Sorry for the confusion.
Anyways, advice I got from Frisco dad is that we can send college transcript directly to whichever college they are applying. That seems like a better option for my daughetr scenario
Anyone submitted their application yet? Just curious. My son is still working on his.
Mine got her TAMU one in on the 1st but still working on UT.
Mine got hers in on the 1st (Common App)
Question on applying for housing…
My son submitted his common app last night, but received notice that it may take up to Sept 1 to receive his UTEID. (This is different from when my older child applied a couple years ago and received her EID within days).
You can apply for housing after applying for admission, and there is a benefit to applying for housing early, but you need an EID to do so. So, should we wait until the EID is generated from the admission app? Or should we go to the Apply for Housing area and follow the option to request an EID from there?
I just don’t want him to end up with 2 EID and creating an issue for himself.
That’s a good question. I think you have to wait till you get your assigned EID from the application.
Speaking of EIDs. Mine already has an EID because she has taken on-ramps(dual enrollment classes) so not sure if she will keep that same one or be assigned a new one? She hasn’t completed the app yet so hopefully that will become apparent but curious if anyone knows the answer.
No, not yet. We are shooting to submit UT app in early October!
Just wondering if you have gotten a UTEID yet? He hasn’t submitted the app yet but I’m curious.
We haven’t- the application hasn’t been downloaded from Common App yet- same for all the other Texas schools (besides A&M) that my daughter applied to
I recall that when DS23 applied to LSU they didn’t even download the app till mid Sept. They were sooooo slow.
We are still waiting for Common App to be downloaded as well.
Hi! Came here to see if everyone else is still waiting for the app to be downloaded. Submitted 8/1. We have a UTEID from UTHS summer courses and waiting to see if we have to merge if they assign a new one. All the apps we submitted on 8/1 still say “submitted” in CA except UTSA (app is downloaded writing supplement is not) and Ohio State (already have portal access and app is “in review”) so CA must be functioning…apps just have not been downloaded or whatever. Like watching paint dry!
Question on common app Activities and Honors: If a student works on an activity for 300 plus hours and then wins on that activity in international competition 5th place then Can the activity be entered in activities list and the international award they got for the same activity on honors list? or should it all be under the Activity?@friscodad @compmom or anyone have any thoughts on this pelase?
The way I am seeing this is the one time achivement is an award, reoccuring time committment is an activity but one happened because of the other. Now that I am writing about it, students achieve awards only after they work on an activity, they dont just come to them :), then I guess mentioning them in 2 places is ok? My daughter wants to keep the award in honors, activity under activity as they are so many hours.
I agree with your daughter. It is okay to have the activity and then the award under honors. These things are not written in stone. I am a number of years past all this but that is what I remember doing and kids still do both on a CV!
I would certainly put it in both places.
Yes your student can put in both sections. Mention both in extended resume.
Remember half of the essay need to explain what your student will do with a UT degree, don’t go overboard on the essay on past achievement.
Thanks guys!
@FriscoDad thanks for the reply!
And Regarding essay, my daughter disagrees with writing about what she will do with UT degree on common app essay, we had a huge discussion about this at home. She says common app essay is for all universities she is applying, shouldn’t direct to one university and also her argument is that it should reflect on personal reflection, anything she learned/experienced. She says she will explain what she will do with UT degree on why major essay. She thinks its better to keep it in why major essay than on her personal statement essay as it can interupt the flow.
If using Common App, there is no need to specifically addressing to “UT”.
