Do we expect it to be similar to last year in that a few kids will be accepted and the rest deferred to RD?
So should we expect the major confirmation as well if we do get the notice this week? My DD is top 1%, so auto-admit. Biology requested.
I would. Many flagships defer large percentages. It is not uncommon to see 80, 85% deferral rates.
There are 2 paths on EA day just as there were last cycle: admitted (and the screen shows your major) or deferred and you wait. My son was admitted EA into CNS last cycle, also top 1%. His friend was the valedictorian, NMF, near perfect SAT and was deferred EA, on RD day he got “undeclared cola” instead of engineering. He will be a great engineer but an Aggie engineer.
Why then the EA path at all? Can’t everything be RD?
Can auto-admit students (top 5% in school, I guess) be admitted to CAP (Coordinated Admission Program)? OR, is this cohort safe from being CAPped?
Auto-admits do not get offered CAP. If they dont get their requested major, autos are only offered a non-impacted major at UT typically “Undeclared College of Liberal Arts.”
Someone on @r/UTadmissions is saying 40 acres semifinalists are out. Side note… this person claims to have just submitted their 40 acres scholarship application 2 days ago and accepted today… I think that is so weird considering a last wave that was invited to apply in January to has a deadline of January 15th. Why would UT offer semifinalist status when the final deadline isn’t here yet? Fake or real?
The account is like 2 hours old - probably rage-bait. Wait til EA day. There was a few last cycle popping in early with “It’s out” and it wasnt. Why they think that’s funny I have no idea.
Any idea what time admission decisions will be released?
Never til after Texas HS lets out. EA was 5pm-ish and RD was a bit later.
Just an ongoing reminder to anxious parents and student applicants -
(Supposedly) all EA decisions released today will -only- be either (1) Accepted or (2) Deferred.
You(r student) should have received an email in the past week to clarify this to them.
I don’t know if ‘Major’ decisions will be available for everyone on this EA Acceptance.
Dear Students and Parents, I wanted to share a quick perspective from last year’s results day. Last year my daughter was admitted on January 15th. She had strong academics, a solid resume, and ranked in the top 3% of her class. Surprisingly, none of the students in the top 1% from her school were admitted on that particular day. These were all bright, high achieving, and well deserving students. Many students received deferrals that day.
If this happens to you, please don’t be discouraged. A deferral is not a rejection. Most of the top 1% and many more students from her school were admitted in later release.
Stay positive and patient, your hard work truly matters!
If UT follow last cycle’s example, the EA acceptance screen will clearly state the admitted major.
Hope you all see Longhorn confetti raining down in those portals this evening!!!
Interesting. First time thru UT-A on the newer EA process (LHD26 just finished so she was pre-EA) - however I thought I recall some of the Auto-Admit student/parents unsettled by being admitted but not receiving verification of their major until later. Maybe I’m thinking of Pre-EA two years ago.
You might be thinking of past cycles. They used to do an auto-admit banner in the portal where it said “You’ve met our criteria for auto-admission” as soon as the transcript was processed, months ahead of decisions for those who applied early. Parents would post of social media how they saw in the portal their child was “admitted to UT today” but didnt know the major when really it was merely a confirmation of transcript rank. That caused confusion where people thought a wave of decisions came out. I havent seen anyone say they got those autoadmit banners this cycle. Probably best they eliminated them. They did have them last cycle even with the 1st EA.
The was also anger and shock when all autos expected a yes/no decision on the 1st EA day last cycle. That was more frustration, not really confusion over major imho. Communications could’ve been clearer but with any new major change, nothing goes smoothly. I think they’ve ironed those things out and now have better communication like UT’s recent email confirming the 1/15 date and what to expect.
My son’s portal last cycle looked exactly like all the other acceptance screenshots in past cycles that you see on reddit. The wording and confetti were exactly the same and major was quite clear:
Congratulations, XXXXX!
You are admitted to The University of Texas at Austin.
Welcome to the Class of 20XX and to the [MAJOR] in the College of XXXXXX at The University of Texas at Austin where you may begin your studies effective Fall 20XX.
That’s probably where I’m mistaken.
Thanks for clearing it up.
Good luck everyone!!! ![]()
Does anyone have any idea what time decisions will come out?
The assumption is around 5 or 6pm CST.
