also Portal said when deferred that no additional documents is needed. When my school sent out mid-year transcipts, it is sent to all schools on the common app. Does that mean that UT Austin considers it or will be ignored. Also they received early this week. Not sure if it affects the application. I hope they do as I did very well on 7th sem too.
It got resolved I emailed admissions and it was some intern messing up
don’t know
I don’t know for sure but I think they do not.
The UT website does say that CAP is offered to Texas residents. Although it doesn’t explicitly say it is NOT offered to non-residents, I think that is implied.
By contrast, the description of PACE does not mention residency at all. PACE is much, much smaller than CAP.
UT ignores those midyear reports. They are typically sent out automatically to all schools a student applied to because doing individual requests for those few that require them like Harvard and Yale etc student by student is too much work. And if a counselor dropped the ball on that, well that would be awful.
OOS is not eligible for CAP offers. The majority of Texans who are not admitted will be offered CAP. PACE is very small - maybe 100-200 students total. It is discussed so little I dont know if oos are eligible or not. Since it is a co-enrollment program with Austin Community College I doubt it. The other offer is Take the World by the Horns where they do the 1st semester abroad or NYC. I am pretty sure those are only if the student said they were open to it if offered when they applied in the Common App. Housing for that gets complicated - often requiring a sublet of someone’s apartment who is graduating early or going abroad themselves.
I believe 99.9% oos are accept or reject from what i have read.
We are also very doubtful. But wonder why would they defer OOS applicants knowing 99.9% gets rejected. That is what giving us hope.
Some colleges give out many decisions on EA release day: accept, reject, defer, waitlist. Others like UT only do accept and defer.
They gave out 1/4 of their acceptances on EA day. “Plenty” remain when you look at it from that perspective, glass half full I guess. For oos/intl it isnt so much the deferral that hurts the odds, it is the law that reserves 90% of seats for Texans. To me that is what drives the oos acceptance to ivy-league levels of accetance.
Not rejecting 4 weeks earlier is just their chosen method. Could be worse - some get waitlisted to like UNC CH and never come off, others have gotten deferred in ED and EA rounds and will be waiting til late March for a final decision. Ivy day is like 3/26, that has to be brutal opening all those on the same day.
“UT only do accept and defer.” - this make it nearly impossible to get. it is probably UT way of soft rejection.
They have only had one official EA cycle so far. Not enough data to establish any patterns yet but you could be right. My son’s best friend was a Texas valedictorian, NMF, deferred EA last cycle and later soft rejected with undeclared cola instead of his major.
Wow that’s too bad. As an auto-admit they would have considered him for both his major preferences…were they super competitive like Engineering, Comp Sci and or business?
Seems to be relatively common - and not just for McCombs, Engineering and Comp Sci. Have been following UT since D22 (LHD26) started applying - I believe I recall in years past auto-admits with kids looking at Moody, Jackson etc that ended up offered in LAS.
Jackson, yes I would agree very competitive. Moody is not that competitive though for auto admit. I’m surprised that an auto would not get Moody, assuming they have some sort of relevant EC.
Yes - engineering so he was considered for both 1st and 2nd supposedly (engineering is really the only one that people realistically believe considers them for a 2nd choice). And last year supposedly McCombs was harder to get into the Cockrell by the numbers. Even autos are assured of nothing but COLA.
Yes, I know auto is only assured COLA, and not assured certain competitive majors in COLA. I’ve just never known any auto admits to get rejected from Moody or Education. I know many who are not auto who get in to Moody and of course a ton of non-auto that get into Education. My kid is waiting on COFA, which (thankfully for us) has almost nothing to do with being auto admit…cause if it did they certainly wouldn’t get it! ![]()
Any theories on why only some people have the Plan II scholarships in LASSO? I know some autos who got soft rejected on Reddit have it, but there are also non-autos who got it who wouldn’t get a major in COLA anyways.
Im non auto (oos), both majors are in cns, and i see both plan 2 cola scholarships.
I have no idea how any of those populate the students’ task list. And it seems to always be changing with new weird scholarships opening that my son is not eligible for or interested in. My current LH logged in last night for fun (cuz i asked him to check) and said he has several dozen in the task list - none of which pertain to him to actually apply to - and most were weird global, go abroad, cola, foreign language ones that have nothing to do with his major.
That one for INCOMING FRESHMEN with the * I see in the photo above - make sure they do that. It was the only one my freshman did last year and led to his small merit one for his honors program.
Have any other auto-admits seen their school change to Liberal Arts in BBA Graduation Manager in UT Direct? A couple people mentioned their RIS and Graduation Manager changing on Reddit.
