@aggiebabyboymom thanks! And Good Luck!
Can anyone tell me how CAP offers work?
Just rejected from Turing today
3.99 UW 4.6 W SAT 1570 (790M, 780 EWR) 6 Science Olympiad medals (only joined this year so that is from 3 competitions), VP of H4H club, Founder and President of FBLA club, Ntl Merit Finalist, AP Scholar with Distinction, Texas in state auto admit.
@4DagoBwl4o0 My son received this message, “We’d like to offer you the opportunity to participate in the Coordinated Admission Program (CAP).” on his MyStatus page. It was followed by an email a couple of days later. Participants in CAP begin their studies at another participating UT System university. After completing CAP requirements during their freshman year, students are guaranteed transfer admission to UT Austin.
International decisions are out.
@4DagoBwl4o0 – With CAP you enroll at another UT system school for your Freshman year. If you complete the requirements (30hrs from “approved courses” with a 3.2GPA, no grades <C, and at least 1 math class beyond college algebra) then you automatically transfer back to Austin for the sophomore year and can pick an open major in the College of Liberal Arts.
If you want another major you have to compete with normal transfers and internal major change petitions for those slots. If you don’t complete all the requirements you stay at the other school to finish your degree.
It’s a way in for folks that really want to go to UT but didn’t get in as a Freshman. It has significant requirements that must be met and limitations as you don’t get a guarantee on your major and you may not be able to apply AP credit and meet the “approved course” requirements so you may end up losing the ability keep your AP credit.
Are you sure? I am an international student and I haven’t received anything yet.
@Cgaope Sorry you didn’t make Turing. Yours is an example that super stats alone may not be sufficient/fit. In high school, are you significantly involved in computer science/programming, compete in events, attend conference, …?
Are international decisions out? I still haven’t received a decision.
Idk, I’m an international and still didn’t get anything
Same here. I am an international applicant and didn’t receive a notification. I hope they release their decision today.
@WineDrinker I am aware of other kids in Turing who had zero such experience - as a matter of fact their website says “Outstanding students with weak or nonexistent high school CS backgrounds are still encouraged to apply for the Turing Scholars Honors Program; if accepted, they will be expected to complete one CS class at UT or some other college before starting the full Turing Scholars curriculum.” https://www.cs.utexas.edu/turing-scholars/admissions
We really don’t know their criteria for selection.
Can applying undecided to a specific school affect my chances?
@minimango I’m out-of-state. Still no dean’s scholars for me
@WineDrinker My high school only offers one computer science AP course and I took that. There is no specific computer science club either - we all join Science Olympiad or Robotics club
