Glad I relieved everyone’s worries! Yes, I am on their mailing list but nothing more. I have an ED application in the oven so I won’t be applying to UVA until late December.

i think i’m on the mailing list - i’m not sure.

the letter doesn’t really seem like a “likely” letter to me - who knows

the last few paragraphs make it seem kind of like a “likely” letter, but considering worldshopper got it and hasn’t applied, its doubtful that it is a “likely” letter. i got one, but in the past i’ve also gotten other emails like this one about random things like their professors winning awards-its probably just sent to everyone on the mailing list.

I did receive two copies of this same e-mail. Did anyone else have the same thing happen?

i recieved the email

I did not receive the email but I was not on the mailing list. It’s good to know that we have found the letter’s point of origin.

Yea I got 2 copies too… very strange

it COULD be a likely letter.

last year’s likely letter for Regular Decision was like :“PLEASE give serious consideration for Univerisity Of Virginia…”

^ u know you got in.:)

Yea, I got the likely letter last year. It was very very obvious that I was pretty much in, but I wasn’t too worried that part.

did it sound somewhat like this yrs? I think someone posted the whole letter in this thread, hopefully there is some kind of resemblence to the one ur talking about untitled!

UVA sends likely letters?

I read this letter to mean “UVA is a great place, we hope you will give us some consideration and apply to our lovely school located in beautiful Charlottesville”.

I received the exact same letter as posted except I have NOT applied.

I did not receive the email and I am not on the mailing list but I am still freaking out!!

its prolly just the mailing list kathy, like worldshopper said, he recieved it and hasnt even applied. Still, come decisions time it should be interesting if the email indicates something

Here’s a thread from last spring about the likely letter that some RD applicants received:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=34581

did not get letter! bad or good?
other people’s stats that did apply anyways?
also…whennnnnn are we finding out!!! wed or thurs at 5?

Are some of you not on their mailing list, yet have applied?

Yes I am not on the mailing list and I did apply and I didnt not get the letter.

the letter is not very conclusive. thus people who did not receive one have nothing to worry about.

i didn’t get this e-mail

oh man, that stresses me out bigtime. i’m not on the mailing list, i don’t think? i’m checking…i have application confirmations and then i have some wierd e-mail from like oct 24 that kinda reminds me of the ‘no place like home’ e-mail. it’s all like themed and stuff.

Dear Mary:

Football vs Nobel?

That’s the question. Which event should be the lead here? Yes, our football
team http://cavalierdaily.student.virginia.edu/CVArticle.asp?ID=24680&pid=1347
did pull off a wonderful upset of Florida State on Saturday, but one of our
faculty
members brought us an honor that is even more rare and respected, the Nobel
Prize
http://cavalierdaily.student.virginia.edu/CVArticle.asp?ID=24458&pid=1339.

This is the kind of problem most schools would be happy to grapple with. In
some ways the fact that UVA excels in a broad range of endeavors from research
to sports, is about as accurate a snapshot of the school as you can get. But
we thought you might want a couple of other views as well, literal and
figurative.
It is the time of the year for the orange and blue to be worn with pride and
the time when the blue sky shines with a kind of light so that even the canvases
of Dali pale in comparison.

But there are many other kinds of blue here too. True Blue, for starters. We
have students who think that giving education is a way of getting one. This
year we have students who have dedicated themselves to encouraging students
across
Virginia to consider making college a future choice. They are called College
Guides http://www.virginia.edu/topnews/07_20_2005/guides.html and their hearts
and minds are in the right place.

While there are no blue movies at next week’s film festival there is a
celebration
of inconstant canvas of justice. Move over Cannes. Step aside Sundance. They
have nothing on the Virginia Film Festival http://www.vafilm.com/ in
Charlottesville,
Va. Do you enjoy kicking back and relaxing for a few hours with a few of your
famous and not so famous friends? Do you like hobnobbing and talking shop with
famous directors and actors? If so you’ll love this fun and intimate festival
right here in Cville.

It’s almost too blue this time of year. Not quite true blue, but the blue that
moves you beyond the arch of the sky into a dome that poets always talk about.
That’s the blue that is in the sky in October. Really. The leaves are just
turning red and yellow but they shine against that blue.

Weather matters, in all senses of the word. Come and see our blue. And our sea
of orange too. If you find you really love it, you might think about applying
to UVA early. The online application
https://applyonline.virginia.edu/Admissions/Login/
is just a click away. Just remember to hit ‘submit’ by November 1! And maybe
next year at about this time you too will be sitting outside reading under
cerulean
skies.

And, by the way, for those who want to hear more about all the blues in the
world,
look at On Being Blue by William Gass.

Best wishes,

The Office of Undergraduate Admission
University of Virginia

so maybe it’s just a random thing. and i received two copies of it. i dunno.

i recieved that email also, and the no place like home one
