guys, i feel like these emails aren’t indications of anything

yea i think ur right, we’re just getting worked up for no reason

i’m so worked up over everything. i just want to find out. tomorrow is gonna be terrible. ugh. and thursday, at school–i’m going to be freaking out.

i was planing to skip school on thursday, but if we find out tomorrow that would be crazy

why would you skip school on thursday, thrills?

because i wouldnt be able to concentrate in school due to the fact that my admissions decision would come that day.

hahaha

i was seriously thinking about skipping school on thursday too. just because my nerves are gonna be so frazzled.

plus, if i was at home, i could go to sleep, which would pass the time. or i could go to the gym–which would also pass the time. both of those would be more productive than sitting at school…

That is DEFINATELY not a likely letter. So it doesn’t mean anything either way. Everyone just chill. I’ll catch you tomorrow after 5.

i talked to my brother - he got the letter 2 years ago and he was rejected. too bad, i thought it was a good sign…

ok, so definitely not a likely letter

Don’t stay home on Thursday. Don’t stay in bed. Go to school. Your life will not end if you don’t get into UVA. For what it’s worth, I was rejected by UVA 31 years ago. The reason - there were so many Baby Boom applicants that UVA used a computer to sort and select from among the qualified applicants. I was sad, but my life did not end. I ended up at a different school and was VERY, VERY happy. I also got a fabulous education. You will all go to college. The school you attend will be the one that is right for you. Also, whether the news is good, bad or indifferent for you tomorrow, remember that one of the most important things you need to learn in life is how to deal with disappointment. Soldier on. Put all that nervous energy into writing an essay for another college application.

That being said, my D applied ED to UVA. She got the OZ email. I don’t see any hidden meaning in the message. Her SAT scores are great (770M 740V 680W). Her grades are okay, but not great (3.6UW). She attends a public high school in No. Va. Her course load is all honors and AP. She is a legacy (Dad is a double Hoo) and she’s got a good non-athletic “hook”. She’s been told that she has a 50/50 chance of being admitted at UVA. She’s been admitted to another school already, so she knows that she will go to college. She’s decided not to check online. She’s going to wait for the letter in the mail. She’s applying to other schools. It’s an interesting mix of small and large; public and private. Sadly, my alma mater didn’t make the list. :-(

For what I can tell, everyone on this board has at least a 50/50 chance. You may get in, or you may get deferred, or a few of you may get rejected. There are 300K more HS seniors this year than there were 10 years ago. You may find like I did 31 years ago that there are simply too many Baby Boomlet applicants. (Blame your parents.) Finally, if you do get in, don’t lord it over the kids you don’t make it. You aren’t better than they are. Just consider yourself one of the lucky ones.

My cousin is a senior at UVA right now. She got in (in-state) with a 4.0 weighted GPA and a 1150 SAT score. She graduated in the top 10% of her class. She was not a legacy or URM and really had no outstanding ECs (except cheerleading which she lettered in). She is VERY bright, despite her low SAT scores and will graduate with a degree in Biology. She is taking a year off and then will apply to med school.

Good luck everyone!

My S has appied ED so I’ve been lurking on this list for awhile. It seems there are many qualified applicants, and I fear for him (we are out of state)

I hope he does make it, because it seems to me that many of you are nice, down to earth young people who I would be happy to have my son associate with.

Good luck to you all, and if you don’t make it in, it is UVa’s loss.

jmparent, that is the right attitude. :)

6 months ago, upenn wharton, harvard and mit all made a stupid decision by rejecting me. they’ll regret.
