UVA Fall 2015 Transfer Thread

@LaVolpe can and MUST are two very different things!

@LaVolpe crushing people’s dreams since 2015 lol

@plsplspls @McIntireguy123
From a 2011 update on this:
4) The instructor recommendation is RECOMMENEDED, but it cannot be sent through CommonApp. This can be printed and given to person giving you a recommendation. They can either mail it or email to our general addresses.

Basically when I called again the guy just said to send it through email or fax just in case. I asked if it would even make a difference at this point since decisions are two days again and he said “realistically, no, but it can’t hurt.”

@katew1 thanks for calling. I’ll just have to trust my essays were good enough.

OK… Everyone… I just called them to figure out the situation for THIS YEAR and they said that it does not matter how you submit it and that submission through the common app portal is just fine. STOP freaking us out…

okay I know that the common app recommender thing asks the professor a bunch of questions and they answer between 1-5 and at the end there’s space for a rec letter. So I’m assuming they are allowed to fill out the questionnaire and now allowed to submit an actual letter.

@McIntireguy123
The issue with it is that they don’t get it because it’s not set up as required in the common app portal.
I was told this while standing in Peabody Hall and on the phone not long ago. Trust whatever source you like, but no one is trying to freak anyone out.

And this all started because the Hopkins thread told me I had to submit my recommendations separately. Sorry guys, I just wanted to get things straight. #-o

@LaVolpe They will get it. I was just told that on the phone. Certainly you can submit it through email, etc… But The common app works too. I think that you should only release information if it relevant to this year.

Wait wait wait, I had two professors write my Rec letters and they submitted it through the common app. Did that send or was it all for nothing?

@uvahopeful101 admissions is saying one thing and the blog is saying another. I would lean towards admissions, but then again, @katew1 called and said we were screwed but @McIntireguy123 called and said this whole thing was a farce. So I don’t know who to believe, we are too late into the admissions process to derail now. We just have to ride it out no matter who’s right.

This thread went from poor to straight fear mongering. And no @plsplspls, katew1 reported the old blog posts are not relevant to this year.

I advise a more productive way to blow off steam.

@mcintirehopeful kates post did not prove the blog wrong, her latest post said that the guy advised to send it separately just in case. I have to disagree with your idea that this thread is being over dramatic, I asked a question and people answered. Certainly you could understand that this is important to people and we just want to get the facts straight. Misinformation from another APPLICANT does not mean he is trying to mislead anyone in the forum. He cited facts and personal accounts of people saying what he believed.

You sir can act highly and jump in only to say the thread is derailing, yet you do nothing to contribute, you would rather just watch and only whine about what is going on in a thread. Just stay out of it if you have nothing productive to say.

Honestly not much was accomplished by me calling admissions. Decisions are coming in a max of 2 days, so if you want to email/fax any recs just in case, definitely do. If you can’t, don’t freak out. A recommendation or lack thereof will not make or break their decision. Also very well put plsplspls. I definitely was freaking out because this is important to me, and I don’t blame anyone else for reacting the same way.

@McIntireguy123
Your comprehension skills blow my mind.
I was in Peabody Hall twice this year, both times I was told this information. Ditto on the phone when I asked.
If you somehow have missed this fact from my several posts then I pray that your essays weren’t as devoid of sense as your ability to read and comprehend simple forum posts implies it would be.

@katew1 Thanks, I just hope everything works out for everyone.

@LaVolpe If that is the case, your memory may be in question because I just called and what the Admissions Office Representative said contradicts what you have said. I put my faith in what I have just heard from the Admissions Representative. But you did remember something correctly and that was you can send it in through email :).

Why would they download the recs on common app if they can’t receive it…? I assume they are aware and have received the recs if the recs are downloaded on your common app

@uvahopeful101 i’m in the exact same boat as you at W&M! had a tough go of it my first semester (3.3) and feel the need to get out of here immensely, for pretty much the same reasons. I think one reason to be hopeful even though both of our GPAs are below UVA’s average of 3.5 is the fact that I’m sure UVA knows all about W&M’s grade deflation and that it’s not a good fit for a lot of people
