UVA Fall 2015 Transfer Thread

@LaVolpe nooooooooooo

@plsplspls
From the blog: ** We do not have the capability to receive the instructor evaluation through the CommonApp portal.
Sorry :frowning:

Wait… How are we supposed to send in the rec letters?

@LaVolpe "Just for 2008, we are not permitted to receive recommendation letters online. " just for 2008 though?

EDIT: damn he’s right if you want to send a recommendation it has to mailed or emailed

I just called admissions and asked and the woman I talked to said that that isn’t true, they can accept recommendations sent through the common app. Almost had a heart attack there haha.

Question for those who got green circled or green checked with view decision link … Did you have the admission tab from day one then the green check came along … I don’t have the admission tab on SIS … is this normal?

@katew1 1) Know that recommendations or “instructor evaluations” as they are called on the Common App, are RECOMMENDED and not required. Therefore, we do not recommend a number. Historically, transfer applicants send in 0-2 recommendations. You will not be penalized if you send 0. You will not be penalized if you send 3. However, please bear in mind that we are reading hundreds of applications and will not read every recommendation if you decide to send us an exorbitant amount with your application.

  1. There are a variety of ways to send these recommendations. They can be 1) mailed to the address on our website. They may be 2) faxed to (434)924-7674 OR 3) they may be emailed through traditional email to uvarecommendations@virginia.edu. Your name must be in the subject line and we’d like your Date of Birth in the body of the email. "

I believe you, but this is what is on the blog :-t

@katew1 Oh my god I almost had a heart attack…

Hmm okay this is really confusing. Should I call again? Maybe she didn’t understand my question or thought I was applying as a first year (even though I said transfer student) :frowning:

@katew1 I would ask again and emphasize that you aren’t talking about the evaluations but a literal recommendation.

What is the difference between the evaluation and reccommendation???

Lol this is crazy! You would think with recommendations it would more apparent on their website, no one should have to wade through blog posts to find answers.

I have called in the past and walked into Peabody to ask it as well, both times I was told they must be sent through another medium.

@McIntireguy123 I wouldn’t know, I waived my ferpa rights :-<

@LaVolpe you betrayed me! You should of said something sooner :((

@plsplspls I was under the impression that this was common knowledge or else I would have!

So basically, the three evaluations submitted by my professors on the common app portal are useless?

@plsplspls
The right hand column with information does say:
“Transcripts, Recommendations, Testing and Supplementary Materials can be mailed:
blah blah address here” and then the email they can also be sent underneath that. :c

Please @katew1 give us good news

@McIntireguy123
Yes, to my knowledge this is the case.
