UVA Fall 2015 Transfer Thread

@plspls Thank you so much! I’ll look into that thread and let you guys know if I hear anything!

I finally got the green check mark!

It’s getting warm, folks! this week …

@quanfo I would be inclined to agree with you if I didn’t know so many people that still haven’t gotten their check mark. You could still be right though and that would definitely be great.
Although this is my finals week and I’d like to not be checking SIS every twenty minutes to see if you end up being right.

hi guys! so i have a checkmark and I can click on “View Decision” but then it just says to check back on May 1st… does that mean that it won’t come out until May 1st? That is so far away :frowning:

@transferplease18 Yes, although they may release them earlier. The checkmark only means that your application has been viewed at least once, not that an actual decision has been made.

All this talk of early releases is making me antsy!

Also, does anyone know why the transfer blog has been so quiet on updates for transfers but there’s like 5x as many posts for 1st years? Or am I crazy?

From looking at a couple of the most recent years, they don’t like to release exactly on May 1, and the latest release date I could find was last year on April 30. They do like to release on Fridays it seems like but last year they broke that rule and released on a Wednesday, so it’s not for certain it’ll be on a Friday. My best guess right now would be Thursday April 30, but I wouldn’t be completely shocked if it was this Friday the 24th since they have come out as early as that before and last year seems like kind of an anomaly in terms of both lateness and how it wasn’t on a Friday

@plsplspls My speculative reason would be that there’s nothing we can actually do right now. 1st years have a ton going on right now and will continue to have tons going on.
I go to UVa almost every weekend to visit my girlfriend and friends there and there’s so much going on it’s absurd.

As for early releases, I’m not really convinced that they’ll be as early as this Friday, but it’s definitely possible. Granted, I haven’t gotten my check yet which leads me to believe that they’re a bit behind rather than ahead. ( I would also speculate that being in the last group of applications doesn’t bode well for me considering by the end of the process they’ll have seen everyone else’s comparable apps)

Found this from 2012 about the green circles and green checks! Don’t worry guys!

@LaVolpe I don’t know the ins and outs of the process, but you would think they would go through each wave and pick out the ones they like. Then when they are through all the applicants they would review the surplus they considered for admission and cut more people before a final decision. I wouldn’t worry.

What letter does your last name start with? Mines a D so maybe they are going in alphabetical order?

Hm… I was thinking about living expenses and places to move to around Charlottesville today and wondered what everyone else is planning to do if they get in?

I for one haven’t even talked to the housing department haha. I did hear that upperclassmen can live on campus as well, but I might be wrong.

@plsplspls Transfers have limited housing options on-grounds. This is because UVa doesn’t actually guarantee housing. That being said, I’m planning to live in The Flats at West Village. It’s a little bit away from grounds (not far by any stretch, though). There’s a few other good housing options I know of, but they are heavily dependent on your budget. If you felt comfortable ball parking your per/month budget for housing I could give you a couple of good places to look at.

@LaVolpe I could probably swing 1500-2000$ a month including utilities

Does anyone know how competitive the major of media studies is?

@puncherkid

http://mediastudies.virginia.edu/contact

Here’s a link to everyone who works there someone might answer a curious email, also you could email undergraduate admissions with questions about that.

Could you elaborate on what you mean by “competitive” as well?

No need to inundate the university with superfluous emails. Wait patiently until decisions come out and then address any important questions relevant to your plan of action.

@plsplspls The Pavillion at North Grounds, Grand Marc at The Corner, and The Flats (the one I would be living in) are all great options. Grand Marc is prime location, but is a bit loud for my taste although I will say that it’s worth it to be on the corner! Also keep in mind that The Flats are brand new and still adding some things (aka a bit of construction, but none of my friends living there have been bothered by it)
There are a couple others (Like Eagles Landing) I need to find info on again and I’ll give those to you when I get a chance later today.

Also, check out this site: https://offgroundshousing.student.virginia.edu/property/rental
You need to make an account as a prospective student, but it’ll help you a bit.
If you need any other info just send me a message.

@plsplspls By competitive, I meant selective (as I saw on the website that there’re only “a minimal number of seats” for applicants interested in media studies). But I would definitely want to know whether media studies is one of the top majors in UVA. Sorry for the confusion.

Everyone click on the UVaCollab on the SIS page and see if they have a virginia.EDU email account on there.
I was told this means something (probably not) but I wanted to know if others actually have this.
