UVA Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

@Sofiseahawk No. No one knows precisely what that means, and all comments here regarding “inquiry access denied” and “There is no financial aid to be found” is pure speculation based on last year’s thread. The issue is that this year they now have a separate application status portal, and have possibly closed this loophole that gives an indication on acceptance/denial.

Glad to see the new post on the UVA transfer blog. Good luck to all, and hopefully we all hear good news soon!

These admissions committees have been doing this stuff for a long time. I am pretty sure if students ever found a loophole that allows them to “know” they got accepted or not, they will close it ASAP. Trying to figure it out now will only make your anxiety worse. Just be patient and wait for the notification that your portal was updated.

@wantstogotoharvd Yes, transferring from an out of state school is more difficult. This is to be expected. UVA is a public university and, as such, focusses on educating Virginia residents first. However, UVA is also unique because of their high regard to out of state applicants and pretty awesome financial aid for us OOS students as well. Stay positive!

I agree with @vegastransfer. Not gonna let my self worry about it. Plus it seems like the people who have inquiry access denied have had it ever since they first checked SIS…So that wouldn’t make sense…I could be wrong, but I doubt decisions would have been made in March.

@wantstogotoharvd Transfer acceptance rates for in-state vs out of state: 54% vs 21% (all schools). McIntire is 26% vs 9%.

@h68123 Where did you get these statistics from? I have looked everywhere! Haha

Is in-state counting CC too? I’m a VA resident currently going to a 4-yesr out of state. What would I count as?

@illiteratemoron If your parent(s) live in VA or you meet residency another way then you should be classified as in-state, even though you’re transferring from a place outside of VA.

For those who are interested, here are the statistics in state and out of state acceptance rates.

Last year the CAS in-state acceptance rate was 60%. This site goes all the way back to 1991.

@Rjlake33 That’s very helpful, thank you!

one question, if an international student is attending a Virginia community college does the applicant have guaranteed admission or count for the acceptance rate in instate transfer?

@SKYDMZ There is nothing in the terms of the GAA (at least for CAS) that states anything about residency requirements. However, the student will most likely be classified as out of state as they are an international applicant. If they apply under the terms of the GAA, they should be safe for admission regardless but will have to pay the out of state tuition rate(s).

@klm63amg thanks I was just worried cause I applied guaranteed but is an international student. I hope I can receive GAA because I go to NOVA

Congratulations @UCBCLASSOF2021 ! Couple questions: when did you apply, and are you already done with your associates or are you in your last semester right now?

To others: is it normal for McIntire people to here before everyone else? I thought all the decisions were going to be sent out on the last Friday of April?

@klm63amg @Confusedaf98 stop spreading misinformation. I know plenty of McIntire transfers that didn’t get interviews. As a matter of fact, I’ve never met someone that was interviewed to get into McIntire as a transfer.

@UCBCLASSOF2021 lol terrible attempt at a s**t post, try a making a new account.

@broobro you have to be able to filter out noise. this person didn’t get into Mcintire. don’t be so gullible

McIntire FAQ. “Are Interviews Required for Admission?”
Answer: No

@msport Just because two of us have different experiences does not mean either of us are wrong… I know 3 transfer applicants from last year & the year before that were interviewed, and it was also mentioned in last year’s thread by someone who had an interview coming up. I already knew and had read both of the things you linked, and I’m under the impression that most of the information from the FAQ part of the comm website is for internal transfer applicants. Perhaps they only select certain people for interviews that they feel they didn’t get enough information from in the application? Who knows - but it is good to know there are people you know who have gotten in who were not interviewed because I can assure you it puts a lot of us at ease.

@msport Literally a comment right below one you made in last year’s thread:

“Hi friends! Anyone else have their McIntire phone interview coming up tomorrow / Friday? I’m pretty confident it will go well, but do ya’ll have any other words of advice?” - @alarak
