UVA Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

@klm63amg I’m not saying McIntire doesn’t conduct phone interviews at all. I’m saying they don’t conduct interviews that are demonstrated interest. You said students that are going to be admitted must have phone interviews. Implying only people who get phone interviews get in… That’s simply false.

I know Alarak, and that person didn’t get in btw.

UVA doesn’t use interviews for demonstrated interest nor do they give you an advantage if they do interview you, it is like you said; when they need more info or are curious about something.

@msport you’ve probably stated somewhere in this thread or in last years thread but what school are you at in UVA and could you speak on what your stats were prior to UVA, would love to PM you but I haven’t reached the number of posts necessary yet

@msport Well phone interviews is exactly what I was talking about, and I do not recall mentioning anything about demonstrated interest, as their website clearly states UVA does not practice demonstrated interest. Up until your comment I was under the impression that phone interviews were required of all McIntire applicants that were to be admitted, but after your data point(s) I can see that is not the case and perhaps only performed if they have questions or curious about something as you said. Thank you for the information!!

@novarunner97 Sure, no problem! I came in as a Third year, and applied to McIntire (so I am entering third year again this fall)

I’ll share details later tonight if you’d like

@msport that’d be great thank you!

@novarunner97

I applied to CAS Economics last year to come in as a 3rd year, I applied with these stats. I was waitlisted, and then accepted:
-3.45 GPA from NVCC (two D’s and two C’s in high school dual enrolled, had a 3.7-4.0 every semester while actually in CC)
-Finished Calc 2/Stat 2, as well as all other prerequisites
-Substantial work experience in the industry I am pursuing a career in (Finance)
-Two great LOR’s
-IMO 10/10 essay. Spent a LOT of time (months) writing it and drafting again and again. I love UVA/really wanted to be here, and it showed.
-Just a few EC’s I was heavily invested in, way better than just being in a lot of clubs/activities/volunteers/etc
-Completed associates degree

UVA: Love it here. The job opportunities are endless because the school is top tier and employers know that, so we are a target school for many industries (not just finance and law). Classes are challenging, school spirit is high, grounds is gorgeous.

I got involved in orgs on grounds, did well my first semester (3.7) and was lucky enough to get into McIntire as an internal transfer (you just apply to McIntire like the 2nd semester 2nd years are). I’ll be entering this fall as a 3rd year again. I should note this is extremely rare and almost never happens

Anyone else notice that this years transfer cc forum is pretty dead? I was scrolling through last years and by this time last year there were around 30 pages (we’re at 19). Any thoughts on this?

Actually noticed that last night. I don’t know what to think of it.

I think it’s partially due to 1) last year’s thread was thorough, so it answered a lot of peoples’ questions and they don’t have to ask again this year and 2) the “inquiry access denied” theory might be making people feel a little dejected. I know it does for me :frowning: I’m trying to focus on schools other than UVA at this point.

@cocteautwins I read in last years thread that they would probably fix the issue for 2019. They have implemented the portal for this year which makes me think that was their solution.

Ok, since we have the OOS/IS acceptance rates, does anyone have a guess as to the avg accepted GPAs for OOS/IS?

Out of curiosity were any of you at the November 2018 transfer session at UVA? I was!

OOS looking like is looking really rough. Only applied to UVA over a bunch of schools bc I felt it was the perfect fit, but now after feeling very confident and qualified, I really do wish I lived in Virginia. All of you in-staters are very blessed:)

Best of luck to everyone.

@transfer1212 I agree with you on that. If I were a betting man, I assume the average GPA is probably lower for instate due to the level of competition being a bit more relaxed. We certainly seem to have it easier than many.

Off to the Natty! Go HOOS!!! Hope to be a part of that culture in the future.

Hopefully, UVA is generous after they win the championship! It would make sense:)

Crazy environment on grounds this weekend when I visited… Really hoping they pull it off! #TonyBennett4President

Can we have some out of staters give their stats? I have seen a bunch of in staters from NVCC, but have not really seen a bunch of out of staters?

I am applying to UVA as a rising third year student under GAA. I applied financial aid and checked my SIS today. It says 'Aid year: 2020, UVA, Aid year description: Inquiry access denied.

@transfer1212 I am an out of state applicant! Check the last comment on page 1 of this thread to see my stats. I was a high school dropout and ended up excelling in college. I am hoping that fact gives my application a boost since I am OOS.
