I don’t honestly remember all of my achievements that I put down. Idk if inquiry access denied means anything anymore or if UVA wants to cover it up my financial aid just changed a couple of minutes ago so I’m hoping that’s good news.
Also I didn’t submit mid-term grades because we don’t have official mid-term reports.
This is so tough because I accepted either getting into UVA or staying at my school and pumping a great GPA and was content with either. Over the last month, I have been stressing every day lol literally checking this blog like fifty times a day. Its ridiculous. I have no shot of getting in but I just want to know.
No offense to any of you GAA, but why do you guys post or have any concern, not trying to be disrespectful, but don’t you guys already know your getting in? The more of these GAA people I see I’m just like well the walls are stacked against me.
The reason why I have concern is because I applied last year, thought I had absolutely everything I needed… I attended another 4 year college my first year, thought I had all course requirements for CAS, but it turns out they weren’t what they needed. I have been taking 18/19 credits a semester and took summer courses to try to catch up. When I got rejected, I gave up everything I had at that 4 year college to transfer all my credits to CC and it was my only goal to get into UVA. Literally, opened up my rejection letter AT UVA.
@gnpy123 What do you mean by “it turns out they weren’t what they needed”? Did you miss some requirements? I saw you had a 4.0, I would’ve assumed you would get in for sure. Also where were you applying from if you don’t mind me asking.
@gnpy123 wow, I’m also surprised you didn’t get in last year. Glad you have GAA this year though, you’ve definitely earned it.
@uvatransfer2019 just dont really like the vibes at VT in general (way too big for me and i cant really feel the sense of community bc of it) and i think the diversified curriculum (at least compared to VT) at uva will benefit me more. theyre both great engineering schools and im sure ill be fine wherever i go. ive also always loved uva so theres that (except for football and bball)
@uvatransfer2019 When I say I didn’t have what they needed, I am talking about the courses. At the 4-year college during my first semester, it was too late to switch courses by the time I realized that I fully wanted to transfer to UVA. Thank goodness my major was undeclared because I was taking general courses. Most of the courses I took fit into CAS requirements, however, I did not look at the transfer credit analyzer to make sure it fully would transfer
I’m going to go down the CAS course requirements list to show you what I had when I applied my first year (not this year):
-English Composition- ENG 111 and 112 from high school as dual enrollment
-Foreign Languages - (I realized I needed this AFTER the add/drop date during 1st semester) So, right before spring semester I placed into SPA 201 and took that in spring. In high school, I took courses up to Spanish 5, so that helped me place into it. However, I did not take the full sequence of Spanish in college, which I think was a weakness.
-Natural Sciences and Mathematics (12 credits) - I took Calculus (4 credits), Statistics (4 credits), and an environmental science course (3 credits). However, when looking at transfer credit analyzer (after I got rejected) I realized the science course wouldn’t transfer because it was only 3 credits and they were looking for the 4 credit course.
-Social Sciences (6 credits) - I took intro psychology (4 credits) and intro sociology (3 credits) , also had AP credit from gov but that wouldnt transfer because I got a 3 on it.
-Humanities (6 credits) - I took Art history (3 credits) and an intro religion course (3 credits) However, looking at transfer credit analyzer I realized my religion course wouldn’t transfer.
Historical Studies (3 credits) - I took HIS 121 (3 credits)
Non-Western Perspective (3 credits) - I took Intro to Africana Studies which I thought would transfer, however, it wasn’t able to transfer.
-Then I had a Political Science-type course from 1st semester that didn’t fit in the requirements and I wasn’t able to switch it since it was too late.
You ever have that feeling of confidence that you are probably well qualified to be accepted and then take a nice look at college confidential and just think R.I.P.
Thanks guys
@transfer1212 keep your head up! Don’t read too much into this thread. I did it all the time when I applied last year for transfer and it messed with me massively. I tried to find patterns in acceptances and denials but its simply not useful. Truly, the only people who know if you’ll be accepted or not are the admissions team. 15 more days, stay positive!
@cocteautwins Thank you. I may have her reach out to her admin just to confirm.
@gnpy123 Just to confirm, you had all those credits after freshman year? I am concerned for my DD as she is missing some requirements. She is only allowed to take four coursed at a time at her current school so it is literally impossible for her to meet the CAS requirements as a freshman transfer.
@gnpy123 Not to say that the pre-requisites don’t matter but it is much more likely that you were just unlucky last time around. I’ve gone back to older years of this thread and have seen people get accepted from OOS as second years with a 3.0 first semester while barely having half of the pre-requisites complete. A few years ago there was a guy with a 3.25 and just started the pre-requisites first semester and got waitlisted (got accepted to W&M though). There are even plenty of cases where people didn’t even have the writing requirements as third years on their reddit page.
I think @gohoos2019 has the right idea. Don’t look too deep into things because their methods are not transparent or 100% predictable. With only two weeks left, there’s not much point in worrying.
@transfer1212 don’t let it get to you, there are many qualified candidates here but just because they’re qualified doesn’t mean you’re not qualified. Anyone here has a shot at getting in. I have zero extra curricular activities or letters of rec so hopefully that will make you feel better
@msport I just want to add to your comment that I was told by the admissions office that Calc 2 and Stats 2 were not required BUT strongly recommended and strongly weighted as an advantage in an application
Do you guys know if mid term reports are required. Mine were kinda bad but I always end up getting A’s and my grades are back up to A’s
@transfer1212 they’re not required but it is probably good if you’re applying for your second year.
