UVA Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

yeh my school doesn’t post midterm grades either so i have no idea what to do

Hey everyone!
I’m a first year right now in a 4 year university in Scotland. I applied to college of arts and sciences.
Bit nervous because there’s no GPA here and school structure is a bit different so not much to go on. But my high school grades and test scores are really good, and I have a lot of credits from APs (plus the mandatory 24 from this year). I got in last year out of high school.
UVA is my first choice transfer. So nervous to hear back!
Also applied to VT and JMU

did anyone get asked to interview for McIntire?

@IvyBound511 No, have you? I’m under the impression that doesn’t happen until early April.

Anyone got “inquiry access denied” on their SIS portal? I’ve heard this is an indication of acceptance or waitlist. Mine still says “There is no financial aid information found”

Is the SIS portal different from the application portal?

the sis website is going under for maintenance today, which seems like that’d be it.

Still confused. Is the SIS portal the same as the “Application Status Portal?” Decisions won’t be out for another month at least so nothing is significant if there are changes, but I’m wondering if there is more than one portal?

sis is different- the app portal is new this year but there are two now

I remember the SIS portal from years past, just thought the new one replaced it. Why would one need the old one? Should one be checking that? Not even sure how to do that, lol!

@klm63amg i did not receive an interview yet. I was just wondering.

Hi everyone,

So I want to be in the right state of mind and be really realistic with what my chances are so if you all could be brutally honest with me because I really don’t want to have my hopes up. Please chance me.

  • I am a second year computer science student at NOVA applying to CAS for computer science, so that's a plus.
  • I am 75 credits in with a 3.633 GPA and am meeting every requirement but the foreign language requirement, I have 2/4 completed so will have the last two levels to go if I transfer to UVA.
  • High school honestly wasn't too great so not worth mentioning but UVA does say that if you spend two years at a community college they don't really look at high school so that's a plus.

So now why I’m really scared:

-Got an F my first semester because of my stupidity, retook the class the next semester and got an A. I explained in a personal statement that it was nothing more than me transitioning into college, kept it short and didn’t dwell too much on it.

-Also have a W on my transcript.

Thank you much

@uvafall2019oof was that F your only non-A grade? (I don’t feel like doing the math to check lol) Or if not, do you have a clear upward grade trend? Any ECs or LORs? How do you think your essays were? I think you’re in a position where the F and incomplete prereqs won’t be a big deal as long as everything else looks good. CS in CAS seems like it’s highly sought-after though, because it doesn’t have the tough E School CS pereqs. Idk how it works but you might get accepted for a secondary major choice instead?

I don’t think one W is something to worry about (I have a BUNCH- my primary worry, but when I asked about it on the transfer blog, they said it probably isn’t a big deal as long as it’s not a pattern and everything else on the application looks ok).

@l2kids Yeah, the SIS portal is used for financial aid, adding classes, etc. The application portal is totally different. You should have gotten an email after you applied with directions on how to access your SIS account.

It’s for my daughter, actually
I think the SIS email might have gotten lost in her email pile. As long as she doesn’t need it for ongoing consideration of admission, I’ll just tell her to search her files for it. So glad I asked here, thanks!

@alaskanlegend123 is onto something. There is a significant precedent from the last years that if you have “inquiry access denied” you’ll be accepted. I believe that we won’t start seeing that until mid-April though.

Also, they might be trying to actively correct that bug this time around. I’d say give it a week or two to check again.

@alaskanlegend123 does that happen when you try to login into the SIS portal? Like it doesn’t take you to the page, but straight to access denied?

I feel like if the “access denied” does indicate acceptance we won’t start seeing them pop up yet because it is still only March.

Going off of past years, Mid-April seems to be when people start noticing those things.
