UVA Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

Daughter waitlisted for CAS with a 3.6 GPA. No aid applied for, no letter rec. She will be an incoming junior. Congrats to all that got in, and best of luck to those waitlisted or moving on.

I requested to join the first one that came up, ā€œUVA Fall 2019 Transfer Studentsā€

Also, my friend was accepted in McIntire with a 3.95 GPA, phone interview and no financial info found didn’t apply for aid

Accepted earlier today, OOS, political science. Had Inquiry Access Denied for 2019 and 2020. I really like UVA but I got into Cal and Vanderbilt, so I will likely be declining my offer.

Accepted, I did have inquiry access denied

Stats:

SAT: 1360 (taken end of sophomore year)
HS GPA: studied abroad but did well on GCSEs, skipped 11th and 12th grade
College GPA: 3.9 (4.0 all of first year)
Hooks: started college early
EC: treasurer of board, rep on another board, treasurer of club

P.S. applied last year with a 4.0 and got rejected, spoke to Dean of day and she said I should apply again next year because academically I looked good but I only had one semester of college to show (final transcripts not ready before decision). Point, if you are applying as a freshie with good stats, I would suggest applying again next year and also getting some ECs on your application.

@JosDio I’m an econ and math double major too!

@alaskanlegend123 @boyandgirl you guys seem really entitled to admissions because of your GPA. I applied last year with a 4.0 and did not get in. I have a 3.9 now and got in. Also, you are implying people got in based on affirmative action or some other diversity aspect which is pretty messed up. Stats do not tell everything about a student. I went to college two years early which is something that (probably) boosted my application. Who knows what other people may have to bring to the table. Nor is it known if they have special circumstances such as veterans or really good essays, recommendations, ECs, connections, etc. My point is everyone who got accepted probably deserved it and a lot of good applicants get rejected but that is no reason to imply you deserve it and others do not.

if you transfer to UVA does your GPA get reset

yes, in the sense that your grades from your current school will not transfer over and count as part of your UVA GPA, although your credits will. but keep in mind, when applying to any grad schools, programs, etc. theyll still be looking at your overall gpa from both schools

In for Aerospace!
So excited to tour the campus later in May!

Waitlisted McIntire :frowning:
3.9 GPA, Solid essays, good recommendations, and 4 ECs (probably the weakest part of my app)
applied as a 3rd year. Had complete Associates degree at the time of application ( finished it in a year, fall 17- fall 18)
ALL MY GRADES ARE FINAL WHAT DO I SUBMITTTT?? lol

Accepted into CAS as 2nd year!!

  • OOS
  • 3.6 from top 45 university
  • really incredible essays
  • lots of ECs
  • great recs
  • (Didn’t apply for financial aid - had ā€œno info foundā€ the whole time)
Shocked I got in but I guess UVA saw something special and I couldn’t be happier!!

Should I go to Ohio State or UVA? I’m from Ohio so being close to home would be nice but UVA is a better school. Cost isn’t a factor because of scholarships.

@JedBartlet1 I’d suggest UVA, even though I’m most likely not going there. UVA has better name recognition in almost every field, and is likely to give you an experience different than one at home. If cost isn’t a factor, take advantage of the new experience. Also, charlottesville is a great area.

Can junior transfers study abroad for a semester? Or do they have to stay on campus for 4 whole semesters

no, if they haven’t posted them today it will probably be friday

does anyone know if Charlottesville a good area? like I mean is it secluded or things to do around? I currently go to a school in the suburbs but we’re a 30 minute train ride from Philly so I just wanna know if the location is ideal and opportunities and internships would be easily accessible

@ndcuva I’ve lived in cville for a few years : it’s obviously not as exciting of a place as NY or any major city, but you can definitely make the best of it for a few years. A lot of cute vintage shops to visit and the downtown mall is a small strip of boutiques and restaurants (sometimes concerts too). The rest is pretty much suburbs and a couple malls

As far as internships, somebody else can add more detail to this but there are a few, and otherwise Richmond VA and wash. DC are not too far so.

Does anyone know about the student parking information?

@goodreads not entitled, just disappointed that’s all. Realize that coulda come off rude to people who actually got in, mb.
