UVA vs Chapman

Hi everyone, I am between these two schools and am really indecisive about them, so I thought I would see if I could get any advice from the cc group. I would be studying engineering at both, so obviously any info about which program might be stronger would be helpful, but I also think there is a lot more to consider other than academics. In particular I am looking for (other than academics):

  • a work hard play hard type of school, where academics are of high priority but the students still have fun and let loose on weekends
  • big school spirit
  • nice campus and surrounding area
  • success of students after graduation

Thanks for your help

Hi,
Based on what your looking for, I would definitely choose UVA. I’ve been to both campus’s multiple times and also have friends at both schools, and they are extremely different. Chapman is much smaller which limits the school spirit obviously, also there doesn’t seem to be much academic expectations like UVA has. If you ask me, UVA is the definition of a work hard play hard school, there is PLENTY of partying especially on Greek row, so fun to be a part of. Also UVA being much more competitive than chapman, there is higher academic success at UVA than chapman. Chapman is a beautiful school, very new and developed also in California, those I would say are the only major benefits, not to mention there are no major sports games to go to really since none of them are D1 (the people that I know there haven’t been to a sports game and they are in sophomore year). Chapman is much more diverse I would say in terms of people and environment. UVA definitely has a preppier more traditional feel. Overall I would definitely choose UVA because it is the PERFECT classic college experience, has a lot of history and tradition, not to mention the campus is absolutely beautiful. UVA definitely fits your wants and needs perfectly.
