True… but still making me A LOT less hopeful
To increase my son’s chances, I’ve resorted to drastic measures: decided to un-follow/un-bookmark all FB, Reddit and CC UW-Madison threads; cut all the tags and washed the Virginia Tech gear we’ve already purchased; and we’ve already lost the deposit. So an offer has to be coming now right???
In all seriousness, you’ve been a great group (other schools have been rude, stuck up, defensive, argumentative, little to no activity). I genuinely feel that 99.9% of the folks on here, have been looking to help each other through this process, for which I am truly grateful for. Out of the seven colleges we visited, UW-Madison was the most friendly and well organized trip hands down. The small online community on here, represents what we felt with our time there.
Good luck to everyone’s students wherever they land, Go Badgers!!!
They will tell us if it’s a solid No …right?
Based on past years, they will notify everyone on the waitlist when the waitlist closes. That’s the hard “no”. Probably in mid to late July.
Has anyone taken the Math B placement test online with a proctor? If so, how was it? Also does anyone know if calculators are allowed for it?
The remote, proctored Math B test is administered by ProctorU/meazure learning, a terrible company with terrible software. Everything about it sucks and creates stress. My daughter just took it this past week. Search proctoru on the web and you’ll see how universally reviled they are.
You cannot use your own calculator, they provide one in the software that she said was difficult to use.
Just make sure you’re set up and do some system test runs a day or two before the test and you should be fine. Also, read their rules carefully.
UW used to have remote sites in state for these tests that my older two took advantage of, and it would be nice if they reinstated that.
Has anyone got off the waitlist who is a CS major? FYI: I am an out of state student who is doing CS. People are starting to get off the waitlist but I haven’t gotten anything yet. Am I cooked?
Yes, we’ve seen a few CS majors receive offers, but it’s mostly been engineering majors. My guess is we’ll see more waitlist movement next week, but no one knows for certain.
Yeah, what the person above me said. It’s mostly been Engineering majors, so I assume that L&S is the next ‘big’ wave that’s gonna hit. As far as we can see, they’re doing this by school, so it’s (almost) safe to assume that L&S is the nest big wave’s target. Hopefully, there’s low yield so that we can get off.
And hopefully, you’re with me when it comes to getting off the waitlist! Let’s hope that this school accepts us!
CS major too, crossing my fingers.
That makes 3 CS majors right here! I find it hard to believe that they had room in engineering but no room in L&S or business. My gut feeling is they’re not close to their yield in these and there WILL BE a big wave coming Friday! Let’s stay positive and wishing acceptances to all of you!
Anyone know which engineering majors got acceptances? My daughter is still waiting to hear on engineering mechanics. We’re so supposed because she got into ivies but waitlisted at UW.
I’ve seen 4-5 different engineering majors but admissions confirmed that they don’t admit by major, only by college (I think CS is an exception to that rule).
Congrats to your daughter! I don’t understand how Wisconsin could have been waitlisted her.
Wondering why she is not taking up her Ivy options? Is it the major?
me too
Just declined my offer of admission (MechE OOS), hopefully my spot will go to someone active in this thread.
The stats that got me off the waitlist were 5 AP classes with 4 A’s and 1 B in my 1st semester this year and an essay exploring how covid-19 has effected me and my grades and how I have recovered since then, the essay also explained how this year I hosted an inaugural robotics event at my school, raised 7k in sponsorships, received congressional recognition for the event, and won the first state award for my robotics team since 2018.
I hope that the context will help people have hope in the waitlist, I believe in all of you guys!
Thanks @Bobblylikebob and best of luck to you!
AFAIK, CS isn’t an exception so far. It’s still part of L&S, so as long as its in L&S, it follows(from what I’ve seen) the trend of the college itself.
Thank you! This gives my daughter more hope! Not sure how her stats look to admissions, really high AP and SAT but 4.92/6 weighted. This is super helpful. Best of luck to you, I’m sure you’re set for great things!
