UW Madison Wait List, class of 2028

Just got waitlisted from my #1 top choice UW Madison for Bus Marketing regular decision :frowning: They closed my application during the process but later processed it again after I contacted them because it was a mishap on their end, is that probably why I got waitlisted? What are the chances that they would accept me from the waitlist as from recent years the numbers are super low. Should I wait for them until after May and reject the schools that have accepted me?

Keen to kno too

My son was also waitlisted and I posted this on another thread. It breaks down the WL numbers: TLDR, depending on the year, odds for getting off the waitlist range from pretty good to very slim.

I doubt the mishap is why you got waitlisted. I think they just probably got a ton of applications this year plus are being careful not to over-enroll. I know students waitlisted at Madison who got into multiple other schools with like ~12% admit rates! It’s wild!

It terms of what to do, you need to commit and put down a deposit at the school you like best by May 1, but you can stay on Madison’s wait list. Then if Madison happens to accept you after that, you contact the school you committed to and withdraw (you usually lose your deposit.) But mentally prepare yourself to go elsewhere.

My son is on the waitlist. From DC area 1440 SAT and 4.1 GPA. Crossing fingers.

Has anyone who was waitlisted received an email with directions as to what to submit if you want to be considered off the waitlist (in addition to accepting the waitlist offer)?

When I spoke to an admissions representative on Friday, I asked if they needed anything beyond the midterm grades and personal statement my son submitted after being deferred EA. They said no. All he needed to do was accept the waitlist offer.

I told my son to keep checking his email just in case that’s bad information. Trust but verify.

Absolutely not. You should decide what your best choice is of the schools where you were admitted, accept admissions to that school, get excited about going there, and move on.

IF Wisconsin accepts you from the waitlist at any point, you can pivot at that time, possibly declining your other admission, and re-focusing. Consider it a pleasant surprise, but hopefully at that point you will have gotten enthusiastic enough about the school where you initially enrolled that it will be a harder decision than you expected.

That is truee, the number of people applying just keeps increasing every year :exploding_head: Really hope there’ll be enough spaces available for the waitlisted students. I’ll be accepting the waitlist & put down a deposit in another uni, thank you so much!

Fyi last year the first wait list offers were sent april 27 and most were oos kids. They had a week to accept. Wave two was May 5.

Also heads up to those here…AP exams are first weeks of May so factor that in if travel will be required.

Dang, I had guessed 3,800 and was worried it was too high. Updated waitlist stats for the last four years:

Much better odds than the 5% chance of getting off the waitlist at Michigan.

Somebody was beating the bushes to fill the class. Bizarre.

Agreed, but similar to their stats for Fall 2020.
