UWC Admissions

Hi. I would like some information regarding UWC Colleges. I’m thinking of applying for next year and would just like to know what the life is like at the various Colleges? What is the admission process like, what do you have to fill in, in the first application form? I’m told it’s quite long and includes essays? If selected for an interview, what type of questions will you be asked, what do the typically look for in a prospective student? I know there’s, ‘no formula’ however there must be some sort of general guide lines. Also, academically I’m not that great. I achieve really high marks in certain subjects and comparatively low marks in others. For example I get between 75-80% in history and english, however I get between 55-60% in math. How much does this lessen my chances of being selected and how much does your academic performance count? Also, do they look at all your subjects, or just the one’s you will take at a UWC, if you get in?

Thanks!

So, basically, UWC looks for A LOT of factors in its prospective students. In the first application, you have to answer some general information about yourself and some other short questions that will test your way of thinking and your past experiences. I would recommend you to start working on your math because I think math is a straight dead subject and you’ll easily obtain high marks if you really try hard. However, the academic results does not lessen your chances of being selected. After they look at your application form, they will choose about 30 or 40 students for an aptitude test. Then, they will choose the top 10 students and invite them for an interview and presentation day which includes personal interviews and short 20 minute presentations. So, in your interviews, they’ll ask you about a lot of stuff from your application, so don’t lie from the first place. It’s an all day event and you just have to be yourself. At first the pressure is high, but then you’ll get used to the other candidates. =) Hope this helps and good luck!

Just letting you know that the application process varies from country to country and the process ambermay explained is the one of Myanmar

From my own knowledge they definitely do not look at grades in isolation! Assuming your from the us or a large country haha, they are most likely to look at you as a whole. In NZ merit is the main factor Sophia includes; potential, global awareness/community service and academics. This will probably be the same for you  really good grades would be nice but they just need to be good enough to show that you can cope with the rigorous IB course!

Generally the process consists of written essay(s), answering some questions and then they may select you for an interview. I suggest you check out your national committees website for more info :)

Ah typo - *so this… Not Sophia haha
