Very important question about The Good Wife

Because of football and last night the debate, I can’t tell whether I am lost. What did Eli do to make Alicia so angry? I remember that she thought he sent “Denny” away on a job to keep them apart, but she learned that it was Ruth and not him. What else did he say at the end of that episode that made her so mad? Getting older is a pain!

In last Sunday’s episode, at the very end, Eli confessed to listening to and deleting a voice mail from Will Gardner telling Alicia that he loved her and would give up everything for her. This happened during Peter’s gubernatorial campaign, they were at an event and Eli was holding Alicia’s phone while she was onstage with Peter. His guilt finally got the better of him hence the confession. Alicia was devastated.

That’s right! Ugh. I remember thinking it was bad, but I couldn’t remember what it was specifically.

This is a good question … Should he have told her that all this time later? He feels better unburdening himself, but there’s nothing she can do now with that information.

Exactly. Will is dead. Teling her now - years later - pointless. He made a terrible error in judgement that cannot be fixed. He compounded his wrongdoing by telling her now when nothing can be done.

I think Alicia will come to be grateful to know about Will’s message, but she has a lot of grief to process. I liked her scene with Eli’s daughter telling her how she was hurting. I think Will was her great love and I like her strength in moving on. It’s going to be interested in seeing where the show will go since the show runners had a 7 year vision and they are done this season. Evidently, CBS would like to bring in new show runners and continue on, but that often leads to a let down in the quality of shows.

When they killed off Will, I think that proved that they’re not afraid to do anything. Do the creatives get to say, Hey, this is my baby and this is how I want to end it and you can’t ruin the franchise, CBS, by trying to milk it?

I don’t know how anyone can, all of a sudden, start watching this show. How could anyone have a clue as to Alicia’s fury if they haven’t followed from the beginning? I can’t see how telling Alicia about the message from Will was of any value other than to assuage Eli’s guilt. All it seemed to do was pour more hurt on her.

I just started two years ago. I got the drift. And on Sunday late my CBS affiliate airs repeats so I feel pretty caught up.

The first 6 seasons are available on Amazon video streaming, free to Prime members. I binge-watched the first 6 seasons, now waiting for the 7th season to be free.

I think Alicia’s great love was not Will but Peter. She had lust for Will, but she puts up with crap from Peter. True love.

When I started watching it, I bingewatched it all the way from the beginning over the summer, then picked it up as broadcast. I watch it streaming the day or so after, though. I simply cannot stand the advertising any more. One great advantage is that I remain blissfully unaware of the no-doubt increasing political advertising.

I watched seasons 1 and 2 last summer. I was curious when season 7 started this fall, so I told myself I’d just watch a little and go back to season 3. Well, I got hooked, so now I have a four-season gap, but I can fill in some of the blanks pretty easily. I was surprised that after the holiday hiatus, it started right up with the scene where Eli confessed the voice mail deletion to Alicia.

We’re doing Amazon Student, so I don’t get the prime show access, but I’ve been taking the CDs out of the library since it doesn’t seem to be on Netflix, which I do have.

Personally I am getting a bit tired of all the back and forth about breaking away from Lockhart/Gardner and back again and the different firm configurations and all that drama. I think that killing off Will Gardner was really bold but losing Kalinda was a big loss for me. She seemed to be one of the most interesting characters not only on The Good Wife but on network television.

I believe that the actress who played Kalinda wanted to move on to other things so they had to figure out a way for her to leave and I’m glad they didn’t kill her off.
Like many others, my husband and I binge watched the first 5 years and then have watched the last two in real time and have been totally hooked by the great writing and acting. However, we both looked at each other after this last episode and both agreed we are pretty much ready for it to be over. Don’t like Alicia at all - think she and Peter should have divorced years ago and been done with it. I think she is just mean to him and at this point I like him better. And like bookmama22 - am really done with the whole lockhart, argos, gardner, florak, whatever whatever configuration of the month. It’s Chicago - plenty of other law firms for people to choose from.
I am just finding it boring now…

Agree bookmama. How many times can Alicia change what she is doing? LG, then going with Cary than running for office, then her own thing and now, perhaps, back to Lockhart Gardner. Plus, I thought the case this week was pretty uninteresting. First time I really thought about not watching any more.

We also binge watched 5 seasons, then started watching on amazon prime. I read somewhere this show is in danger of being cancelled at the end of the season. Diane Lockhart is my favorite character.

While waiting for the show come back I binge watched suits and now like that show more.

The Will Gardner actor wanted to move on, so they killed him. My understanding was that the actors playing Alecia and Kalinda wouldn’t even speak to each other by the end and were rarely shown in the same scene, so Kalinda was ready to move on.

At this point I don’t think we’re even supposed to like Alicia, right? Like, when she turned down that offer and Lucca was all “ey, what about asking me - plus, we’ve lost our big clients, it’d be nice to have an office and an actual salary for once!” Or when she didn’t even ackowledge to Grace that she had landed the big clients and she had found a way to save them from eviction. It was meant to show concern that Grace spends too much time at the firm, and sure 3Bs, 2C’s (and, I assume, a couple A’s?) isn’t getting Grace into Georgetown, but it’s not the end of the world, DePaul or Loyola would be thrilled to have the governor’s daughter… - I know this is CC where all kids are straight A-students but Grace deserved better recognition for everything she’s done.
(Yes, Eli’s confession was hurtful and pointless. But Alicia had her chance with Will anyway and she left him. So…)
In short, I thought Alicia was mean to Eli, to Marisa, to Grace, and to Luca.
On the bright side, it’s perhaps the first time I can think of CBS allows Alicia to lose a case!

The writers got stuck in a rut with Kalinda. She sleeps with men and women to get information. OK, we get it, move on! The subplot of her violent ex-husband also did not work for me. I’d like to see Carey do more. Nice bit when he tricked the young associates.

I also was tired of Kalinda…especially the wardrobe. …we get it, leather jacket, mini skirt and boots. Her character didn’t develop at all.
