Daughter accepted to honors. I know merit scholarships are more limited for VT than some other schools, but is it reasonable to still hope we might hear something later?

Well per the 24/25 CDS, 11.1% got an average of $3,288.

Whether it’s reasonable you’ll get one, I don’t know - nor who knows how they determine - but the odds are against. But someone will likely get one, why not you - but I’d assume they are small.

Ok, thanks. Those are better odds than I expected. The average award is pretty low, but something is better than nothing.

Same here, and from what I have heard from several kids that do go there…if you want more choice and to not get stuck in a “crappy” or far away dorm you should commit asap after being admitted to get the best spot you can in the housing que as they do it by how fast they finish the housing contract. The $400 is most definitely refunded if you withdraw by May 1st. My dauughter also pivoted in April and we got the money back.

There are definitely different levels of dorms. But the ones with the best locations are the crappiest. So at least there are pros to all of them.

True but you arent going to get much of a choice at all the later you are in the Que…

Hi! Thanks for alerting me to the VT parents FB group. It’s been very helpful.

I’m curious what you decided to do about the housing contract for Tech. We put down the enrollment deposit today but haven’t signed a housing contract yet. My son is strongly leaning toward VT, and while he still has 4 applications outstanding, it is highly unlikely he’ll get into the top 3, and he wouldn’t pick the fourth over Tech unless they threw boatloads of cash at him. Like you, we are in state, so it’s hard to beat the value and ROI of our in state schools.

By the way, your son sounds a lot like mine!

I will send you a private message!

Just a quick housing story for VT kids/parents - my S25 committed to VT on the spot and was given a very early time slot to choose housing. He insisted he wanted a suite with a/c and got his “first choice” dorm. It turned out to be a disaster bc it was super quiet, everyone had their doors closed and he found it incredibly difficult to meet people. He switched to a much less desirable non a/c dorm after about a month and could not have been happier! So don’t worry too much about it - every dorm has its pros and cons.

we applied for RD. Got email immediately that RD is based on available space implying they filled all seat with out explicit allocation of seats for RD. Is this how VT offer admissions? Is there any data on how many seats may be available in RD.

Yes it is

VT has been very clear that this is how they handle RD and have encouraged students to apply EA for the last couple of years.

Many publics are this way. Purdue, UMD and more.

Yes - my DD was in a suite in Payne in the Meraki LLC. Very nice dorm, but she met absolutely no one outside of her 6 person suite. Not sure if it was just a tough year, but she did not find the Meraki kids to be social, which is what she expected. I think the kids chose the LLC to be in a suite style dorm, as opposed to truly wanting to participate. She has advised my incoming DD to avoid the LLCs and choose a traditional hall style dorm in a good location.

I called the financial aid office and they said they would send financial aid packages in the afternoon. Has anyone gotten theirs yet?

Thanks for the update - nothing in the portal yet, been checking all day (we’re OOS, if that matters).

My OOS kid got his financial aid in hos portal but it was a bit confusing to find it at first. Curious if anyone got scholarships with their offers? Thought my son might get a small merit one but nothing.
