Yea bummer for us too … my wife went to VT, and my son and older daughter are currently there.
Housing choice is in order of when you sign your housing contract (which you want to get accomplished within a day of accepting - it can take 24hours or so for all the access to be granted to sign contract), So housing choice is an advantage the earlier someone accepts.

Is the housing deposit refundable if your child changes their mind between now and May 1?

Offer packets to those admitted will not be sent by mail until late-February
Their policy says the $100 housing deposit is refundable if requested by June 15th.
Refund of the acceptance fee of $400 requires notification by May 1.

Historically, from my experience, the mailed packets tend to be a good bit after the acceptance is made via portal/email. I wouldn’t be surprised for them to still mail out late February.

I have nothing, and know nothing about computer science, but as an outsider I will say that seeing the leaks etc on other school portals, this inspires a lot of confidence inVT’s CS departments. I was sort of aghast at some of the crazy mistakes on other portals and despite looking at math and business majors, I started to give those schools a side eye. So while I very much want some astrology to tell me know, I am NOT patient, I am also thinking, good for you VT
That said they are still getting the side eye a little from me on this first come first serve housing preference, particularly in light of FAFSA delays, but I should wait until that is actually a relevant problem

I did not see “admit 17”, so not feeling good right now… ugh!
