Very impressed with VY campus. Though it was quiet and there was no soul around, the campus still looked great.
Next time, hope to try their famous campus meal.

Was it an official campus tour, or did you just walk around on your own.
We just walked and drove around with self tour map.
VT’s campus is one of the best, imo. It’s well put together, cohesive, and very pretty. The campus to town transition is seamless. Blacksburg is a great town.
VT discontinued legacy as a factor starting this year. So your hypothesis doesn’t hold water.
Do you know if this 75%/25% breakdown would track with their previous patterns of acceptances from (ED+EA) and (RD)?
Everything is different this year because they did away with early decision. So we can’t rely on what they did in the past. They also weighted race very heavily in the past (not a secret, they said it was “very important”), and they can’t do that any more either.
Hard to predict what they will do. They might not even have their plan set in stone yet. They might be making adjustments as they go along, thus the “TBD” notification date they had announced.
Discontinued it as a consideration for admission, yes. Does not mean that they don’t have the records, so as a way to appease some very angry people they could have released some extra legacy applications when they didn’t originally intend to in order to get some good will back, or just to keep interest as they are one of the latest EA releasing schools. At least in Northern VA people are very peeved at them releasing EA two weeks before RD when there may not even be RD acceptances.
there is ZERO basis that these early decisions had anything to do with legacy. Sounds like sour grapes
Literally dont know a single legacy that heard a decision, my son and 3 of his friends are all legacy and heard nothing. Their friend is not legacy and he heard. There is no basis for this argument. Every person that has posted that they were accepted in the other forum on here was not legacy.
My son was one of the 25% that heard before Christmas. He is not a legacy, he is not in-state, and he applied a couple days before the deadline.
UW GPA is 94/100
1400 SAT (super score)
10 AP and dual enrollment classes
Average EC including a job and varsity sports
He was accepted into the Department of Political Science in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, International Public Policy degree.
Why do you think VT doesn’t consider mid year grades for senior year?
Probably because of all the time they spend before they’re ready (mid to late January) already accepting kids. That would be a short turnaround!
The one person I know who got into VT in December ED’d another school and does not have Tech at the top of her list. With no ED this year, it’s quite possible that many of the top early applicants don’t intend to enroll at Tech if their other options work out. I wonder how well the admissions staff will calculate the yield this year, especially for these early applicants.
has anyone heard about Honors College? When do those decisions come out?
Hi All. I know I should not read into things but ever since 12/21 (DS was not one of the students who was notified of acceptance though we are most likely expecting an acceptance) DS says the link on his portal switched from the regular portal web address to: admit.vt.edu…- but no notifications otherwise or acceptance - did this happen to anyone else? That day it kinda threw us off and he was looking for confetti, etc. because of that “admit” at the front of the portal web address. Maybe it was always like that and he is not remembering correctly?
For whatever it’s worth my son’s has the “admit.vt.edu” domain as well for his portal and he doesn’t have a decision yet. Also we noticed that the VT applicant portal domain has changed a few times since he applied in September. We always save the link for the portals and check them periodically and the VT applicant portal domain has changed (in other words when we try the link we have saved it leads to an error message). This last time we just Googled “Virginia Tech applicant portal” because the prior portal domain we saved wasn’t working.
My son did not receive a decision in the first round and also has “admit.vt.edu”. He hasn’t noticed any change. We’re in-state and a handful of my son’s classmates were admitted. He also has classmates who haven’t heard anything yet. Unless someone chimes in with a different domain, I would assume that it’s neither here nor there.
HTTP name now says admit.vt. edu
What does it mean?
