Thanks! It looks like quite a few TO have been accepted so not going to worry about it. Heard some nightmares from people at other schools doing TO and then finding out it’s not really optional. In hindsight she should have sent them, but it is what it is at this point.
I would think based on her other stats that she’s going to get in
i wouldnt stress! my daughter got in two days ago also in state and 3.9 gpa so im sure you will be fine! best of luck
Was your daughter 3.9 weighted or unweighted? 3.9 unweighted is very good, but weighted is somewhat low
From my crowd-sourcing (live in Virginia so many legacy applicants here), every single applicant that was accepted that I talked to was a legacy of some sort (parent or sibling attended(s) VT) the general conclusion we have come to is that this was VT’s way of “giving back” to the legacy families that were extremely upset about their children not being able to apply ED or that legacy is not considered anymore. Not any concrete evidence but just a reasonable train of thought.
Are you a legacy in any way? Parent or sibling attended(s)?
well my son was accepted and we live in California and don’t know a soul who ever went to VT
Huh, maybe just an in-state thing then. Who knows? VT is traditionally terrible communicators about their application inter-workings, hence northern in-staters considering it a “unicorn” school as students with 4.7 GPAs have been denied and 3.2 GPAs accepted.
My daughter is not a legacy and we live OOS. No connection to the school. She received her acceptance two weeks ago.
They had decisions out even before last week’s wave?
Well my son is legacy with strong grades and SAT scores and didnt hear a word. His friend got accepted early and is not a legacy.
We know of several non-legacy in-state acceptances.
Not legacy and was accepted. It was either random or a very obscure pattern that we have not even though about yet.
Is Virginia tech sending decisions every few days randomly or was it just once that came out few days back around 21st
It wasn’t clear completely…but I hope so… They do not consider mid year senior grades so that doesn’t hold up any decisions
Nope
the exact thing you described happened a lot at my school in previous years… very weird. might be a yield protection thing
My son got the acceptance unexpectedly as well & didn’t see until later…He will be CS major. From NJ.
He is applying to others this week but good to have VT as a solid option. ‘ on our way back from FL, we are stopping by today to check it out too.
Good Luck all!
Let us know how the visit goes!
They released 25% of their offers. My guess, and it is only a guess, is that they will release another 25% in mid-January, then another 25% before mid-February, and save the last 25% for the regular decision pool.
