Virginia Tech Early Action for Fall 2025 Admission

We applied for Galileo (engineering LLC) and did not select a dorm otherwise. There is a notice in his portal indicating we signed the housing contract - as long as you see that you should be good.

What is the portal address now.

Sorry I’m not sure what you mean - I dont think his portal address changed? He was driving the mouse and only asked me questions ocassionally.

What happens if you sign the housing contract but decide to go elsewhere?

Ahhh ok so probably the portal is the starzhousing portal. I wasn’t sure whether there was another portal that is a our base portal for VT with a list of all things to do :joy:

I don’t think it matters because you have a refundable deposit. I think.

The only way to “pick” a dorm right now is to apply to join a LLP/LLC (they were previously called LLC’s now they’re LLPs). If your student is interested, they can apply to up to 3, and are notified if they are accepted (NGL, my kid had essay writing fatigue, and the thought of writing more essays was a turn off for her to apply
) Your kid will have an option to take the offer, or not. You can even wait to apply to those later, but some popular ones do fill up, like Meraki. If you don’t join an LLP, then when your student’s timeslot for housing opens up in June, they will be able to see what rooms in what dorms are available (so go into that process with a ranked list
and an open mind). Joining an LLP is the best way to ensure you get into some of the newer dorms. BTW, as a fellow '98 Hokie, it is fun to be “going back home” and having your kid sitting in the same classrooms you did 30 years ago.

Yes, it’s signing the contract that matters. The students can go back into StarRez at any time and finish filling it out, and technically the profile doesn’t need to be filled out. However, if your kid decides to “go random” on a roommate, PLEASE tell them to at least fill out the bio. It helps tremendously when trying to find a compatible roommate. Your student will either pick an empty bed in a room, or be the one picking the 2nd bed. If you’re the 2nd person choosing, it helps having a bio to read to see if it’s potentially a fit. As a freshman parent, I’m not sure the “what time you go to bed,” etc. questions are super relevant, because everything changes freshman year. Kids that go to bed early at home suddenly become night owls. And who is going to admit they’re a slob?

You can get a refund for the $400 as long as you request it by May 1.

Hah got it. No he still has the same portal, and I think the button to access StarRez was accessible through that.

My DS had lower stats (3.5/3.74 & TO) based on the data collected on here. She applied Liberal Arts undecided. I going to assume Tech loved her EC & writing prompts more than that GPA number. Thankful they looked at all her extras versus looking at just numbers :pray:t2:

It also depends on how competitive her major is. Like my daughters something like 80% as females out of state get admitted.

So my daughter was admitted and got the initial financial aid package which didn’t amount to very much. Will there be an additional package that comes with scholarships and such sometime the next few weeks?

Hi! Where did you find that data? Thanks!

Waitlist Question - does anyone know if those on the waitlist are assessed again in comparison to Regular Decision (RD) applicants? Or are they set aside and RD applicants are only compared to other RD applicants for the remaining offers?

Could those on the waitlist get admission notices at the same time RD admission notices get sent out?

If not, when is the earliest those on the waitlist in years past have received admission notices - assuming any this year are admitted?

Virginia Tech isn’t known for offering scholarships, though some students get small ones. You could call the financial aid office to ask if the package you received is a final one.

There is a link in this thread to data and you can filter by department and major and look at historical acceptance rates.

Is there a benefit in applying for housing now vs May 1st? Strongly considering VT but need to visit and also waiting on couple of far reaches in March/April

You get in the queue earlier for when its time to pick the dorm/room

The case would be more compelling if you had a stats chart like that by major. The fact that VT admits by major makes most scattergrams that exclude that data not very valuable.

Congrats to your son are you Instate or out of state
