i know my daughter got in for Architecture and the admit rate for the last 4 years at VT has averaged 29% because I checked before she was accepted to get her ready if she was rejected. She over applied to schools for this reason in a lot of places since she wants a 5 year BArch program.
There is a stat chart by school and further by majorâŠsomebody posted the link for it in this thread. Thats how I knew Architecture is 29% average admit rate for the last 4 years at least.
Yep! I was the one that posted the link. I was referring to the Naviance chart showing the GPA of kids who are admitted (or not) - just saying itâs not super valuable because it doesnât show the major they applied to. Some majors are 80%+ rate and some, as you noted, are 29%.
Does anyone have info on this Women in Engineering Event? The website says we should get an email in January (which seems weird). Maybe we missed the sign-up?
Hereâs the link to the website. Scroll to the bottom for contact info. Iâd reach out and ask. Itâs a great program.
The VT architecture program is one of the best in the country and word has spread, so demand is growing. Iâd be surprised if the acceptance rate tops 20% this year.
anyone from MA? whatâs the best way to get to VT?
Happy to be an Arch alum. I can tell you it is an incredible program and it opened the doors for me in my career because of VT. Believe it or not I never practiced architecture after graduation I had opportunities doing computer graphics research at VT which turned into a career in IT that led me to get a Masters in Computer Science.
thank you!
I believe just for your school, but Naviance show where a students sits compared to the test Scores & GPAs admitted in a different view on their main page in the " How you compare with others who have applied to Virginia Tech"
We have been away and I havenât caught up on everything (this thread has been BUSY!), but my S25 was also admitted! For future applicants, there is hope, even if your kid is not high stats. My S had just under a 3.4 (with an upward trend) at the time of application. The three things that I believe led to admission for him (though this is only a theory, of course):
- We are OOS ($$$)
- He thought long and hard about those essays and he does have a lot of volunteer and leadership experience.
- MAJOR MATTERS. I think this was the biggest reason he was admitted. No way would he have got in for engineering or business. Lucky for him, he is interested in neither. He is my creative, hands/on, project loving kid and was admitted to the packaging science and design program.
His college counselor really didnât think he had a chance at VT, but I knew from reviewing the data (thanks to CC) that this particular program has a high admissions rate. It is a very small/niche program within the college of natural resources. I donât think many people know about it, nor would it appeal to everybody.
We have never been to campus, but will be going to tour the school and the program in a couple of weeks. Very excited to see what he thinks!
FWIW when we visited VT last year we had a session with the College of Natural Resources and the Environment - at the time, my kid was thinking Geography, which falls under CNRE. it was so great! I highly recommend you trying to do a CNRE specific info session if you can. It was a really small group for us - like literally I think 6 kids and their parents sitting around a table with two CNRE team people, talking for maybe an hour. They were so congenial and did a great job explaining the programs and how, because CNRE is a smaller group, it really feels like a smaller more personalized community. They talked a lot about the individualized attention CNRE students receive from professors and advisors, then, at the end of the info session, a current CNRE student with the same major as my son went to lunch with us and chatted all through lunch about his experience, highs and lows. Iâm honestly really bummed that my kid dropped geography to focus on something else in a different college, because I thought the program and offerings that CNRE offered were fantastic.
Thank you for this! I did get the feeling that this would be a very supportive/small/personalized program and am so happy to read your feedback. We do indeed have an information session with CNRE!
Does anyone know the first year retention rate? And 4 year graduation rate? Found some data online, but some programs (like architecture, I believe) are designed as 5 year programs which would skew the rates.
I saw 93% retention
And 69% four year graduates
We will check the housing portal today. Was able to create email but then had no access.
Youâll be fine. We lost access for a day or so after setting up VT email.
Question about LLPs. Can someone who already has a roommate apply to one? Like can they apply together? Trying to convince my kiddo this is a good option.
Oh yesâŠI am aware of the Naviance scattergrams too. My daughterâs school had it and this year they changed to Scoir which has the same thing. I actually like the Scoir one better because in a lot of instances it now does show what major they applied to! I agree it makes this scattergram system so much more helpful with the major info included. That VT breakdown statistically for applications vs admits was helpful as wellâŠthank you for linking it.
It does. Scoir as well.
you cannot set up the email until you get the email that your payment has processed, correct? We just committed my daughter and did the deposit last night. Signed up for Hokie Focus too.
