Should we see waitlist movement for in-state kids in the upcoming weeks? (Coming from NOVA)
They are probably letting their OOS applicants know first and then in state kids will hear back in the next week or upcoming weeks I hope!
Yes, she applied Early Action
S25 (accepted off WL) also applied EA
I wonder when waitlisted in state students will start to hear back
Hopefully next week or the coming weeks
I feel like they intentionally reserved spots for certain waitlisted students as part of their strategy (if that makes sense).
Has anyone heard anything about when in-state people will find out from waitlist?
We are headed to Hokie Focus this weekend for S25, and I am putting out feelers to a few sources for what we might do on Saturday night to get a sense of what it might look like for him as a student. He’s admitted to the engineering program, and gravitates toward things like live guitar music (jam bands are good, but probably anything would be of interest) and movies.
Anyone here have suggestions? I hate that he is going to be stuck with his parents tagging along, but it is what it is. Just would love to have him see kids having a good time.
I found this, but I’m not sure there is anything on it that hits exactly what I’m looking for: Featured Events and Things To Do in the New River Valley (Blacksburg, Christiansburg, Floyd, Giles, Pulaski, Radford)
We are coming in Saturday afternoon for the Sunday morning session, and then driving 3 1/2 hours home afterwards, so not looking at anything on Sunday afternoon.
Any thoughts are appreciated!
Not sure what’s playing and when but here are some ideas
There is also bowling and pool at Breakzone
You can also walk around Main Street and pick a restaurant. Hope you have a great visit!
My son’s a senior at VT and lately he and his friends have gotten into bowling at Superbowl
Congrats! Curious did they notify you by email or update the portal?
Funny thing is she got an email that said her Financial Aid was ready and I was a little upset thinking that was rubbing salt in the wound - lol - but we logged in and said she was accepted. Turns out the email notification for acceptance was in her junk mail.
So exciting! Are you guys OOS?
Yes, so its VERY $$$ so trying to see if we can make it work - we did get some aid, but still a lot of $$ OOS.
Yeah its astronomical even in state! We are likely going to ECU, which is cheaper OOS than VT in state.
I have a junior Hokie, and my son will be attending VT next year. I took him up a few weekends ago for open house, and his sister gave us an evening tour around campus to show him some spots he hadn’t been to before. It was great to see how busy campus was and what people were doing. We walked around both gyms (McComas and War Memorial), walked through Dietrick Hall which was renovated recently and was hopping, scoped out the locations of the dorms housing the LLCs he was interested in, went through Squires Student Union and the Break Zone there (has games and a bowling alley) plus saw lots of dressed up students apparently for an event there that we didn’t know what it was, did a walk down Main Street and saw students in the various restaurants/bars, etc, and observed what folks were doing on the residential side. Even on a chilly night, there were friend groups out and about (everything from 2 seemingly intoxicated guys stumbling from Main street to a group of guys having a very philosophical sounding conversation, lol). This was all really helpful to my son to try and picture what a typical weekend night might be like. My current Hokie is an engineer and busy almost every weekend with something fun planned around the grind of studying. Sometimes it’s just a movie night (in our out) with her 3 roommates, last weekend was E-ball (semi formal for engineers), she was away 2 weekends ago with her design team at a regional competition, goes away this weekend for a sports competition at another University, etc. She also has season football and basketball tix and is involved with several campus organizations.
Spring is a great time to be on campus! Check the baseball and softball schedules - if they are playing at home, maybe you can catch a game. Both teams are doing well this year. The softball stadium often fills up but there are spots outside the stadium to watch.
Wondering if waitlist offers will happen today at 5pm?
I hope so for in state!!
