How much do we need to pay before we sit for the visa interview?

I paid $200 as SEVIS I-901 fee and was told that to make an appointment, I’ll need to pay $140 more. Is that information correct? Is there anyone who has already made an appointment with the consular?

Almost done! These are the documents that I included:
- I-20
- Acceptance Letter + Award Letter
- Passport
- Citizenship Certificate (Just to show tie with home country) (Not required, but recommended)
- SLC and +2 Transcripts
- TOEFL + SAT score reports
- Relationship Certificate (Relationship with Mom and Dad) Also it is mandatory to prove relationship with your sponsor if you have one.
- Police Report (Not required, but recommended)
- No objection certificate (Not required, but recommended) You cant carry out any financial transactions without it, so it better to get one. It is even required to pay the first semester bill. Banks wont wire your fees unless you present it.
- Affidavit of Sponsorship I (Dad + Moms)
- Affidavit of Sponsorship II (Sponsors if you have one)
- Bank Statement (With at least 6 months of transaction)
- Bank Balance Certificate (Recent. Get it only a couple of days before the interview)
- Property Evaluation (Not required, but highly recommended)
- Certificates, Recos etc.
Also, if you consider including a property evaluation, include all the evidences for properties mentioned.

@confo:

From what I’ve heard, we pay $140 at the beginning for visa application. Only, if we are granted a student visa then we are told to pay $200 SEVIS fee.

Correct me if im wrong.

I just figured it out:

Pay $200 SEVIS fee at first.

Fill DS-160(Visa application form).

Pay $140 visa application fee.

Sit for the interview and pay another $200 for machine readable visa if you are granted visa.

Thanx Lehigh!
haha, i just received my I-20, and there was the payment printout of my SEVIS fee($200), which Lehigh made!

@confi, i guess, you’re right. coz i havent even made an appointment for VISA interview but they’ve paid my SEVIS fee!

but the papers they have sent has quite baffled me!
They’ve sent me:
1)I-901 and its receipt(SEVIS)
2)I-94 form
3)a health form
4)immunization record
5)Meningococcal Information form.

How am i suppose to fill up those health records and all…guys can we arrange some sorta meeting to fill up those forms? :p

@confi: u’re absolutely right about the SEVIS payment.

Question 3.D
[SEVIS I-901 FAQ: Who pays – or does not pay – the SEVIS I-901 fee and when is it paid?](http://www.ice.gov/sevis/i901/faq3.htm#_Toc81222002)

haha, i was just wondering, you should have an alias: **confipedia **!!
Man, you’ve got hell lot of info inside your skull!
:)

I tried to fill up the DS-160 form from my home computer but the photograph requirements were confusing. Can anyone help?

^^from what i know, the photograph should be 2*2 inch in measurement

@all…I have been hearing about DS 156, DS 157, DS158 forms. What are all these forms about?when to fill up these firms?how to fill up?where to obtain?

^The forms you are talking about are old ones. We need not fill them. Just follow the steps I told above.

Here’s the site that contains all the necessary forms.

[Visa Application Forms](<a href=“404 - Page Not Found”>404 - Page Not Found)

U need not fill up the DS156 form, nor do you need to fill up the DS158 form (unless u’re married and carrying a spouse & children to the US along with u). But i think we do need to fill up the DS-157 form.

So the remaining ones based on their order are:
1)I-901 (SEVIS) [https://www.fmjfee.com/i901fee/]
2)DS-160: Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application [https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/]
3)DS-157 [http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/126741.pdf]

Thats all u need to fill up, nothing more and the links i’ve provided above will directly link you to the site or download you the form!

@metallica999: bro, if u hear about any kind of forms or procedures just Google it. The US embassy and its related government sites rank 9/10 in google and they’ll rank first in the SERP. That way u dont need to jump from one site to another just for the sake of finding information. :)

@confidential2015: u can fill up the online DS-160 form even without uploading a photograph. You can just take two 2*2 inch photograph to the embassy during your interview. That’s what mentioned somewhere in their site.

^I know! I tried to do that but it didn’t work. But I finished all my application on my own and I’d suggest the same for everyone. The form really isn’t a trick. It was such an easy form to fill up.
Just remember to fulfill the photograph requirements correctly. But that too isn’t a compulsion. If you don’t have a good photograph you can always carry an extra photograph with you to the interview.

And I don’t think we need to fill DS-157. I just looked at that form and I can confirm that all those questions were included in DS-160 itself. So, we just need to fill up DS-160 for visa.

Good luck everyone! Shoot any question you might have regarding DS-160.

exactly, we should fill up the form by ourselves. A friend of mine was charged Rs500 just to fill up that stupid form infront of the embassy.haha…

well i’m not very sure about DS-157…Hmm may be what u said is right coz the DS-160 is a new form. i guess, they’ve integrated those forms all-in-one.

BTW, did u receive ur I-20 and schedule the interview?

I might schedule my interview tomorrow. I’ve not paid the application fee yet. Just completed DS-160.

while filling the DS-160 form, I came across two questions that confused me.
- list schools other than elementary…blah blah
->what to include guys? only our +2 college or even the SLC school?

2)do you belong to any clan?
->should i include Brahmin, Chhetri, Newar and all??

reply ASAP guys!
