Waitlist Discussion- Fall 2020 Virginia Tech

Wow - do the regional admissions counselors often reach out ahead of time like that?

@ Spidermom67 - Congratulations to your son. By the way, VT’s tuition & fees are few thousand dollars less than UMD for OOS students.

And BIG difference between Blacksburg and College Park surroundings-wise.

I have no idea, but my son had previously emailed him to ask if there was anything he could do to get off the waitlist. The answer was just wait.

Does everybody suddenly have a yellow box on their application status page for Financial Aid…or is that a sign of positive things to come??

We do not, so might be a good sign for you!

@HokieCrazy how many times a day are you checking? I’m thinking it’s gotten compulsive at this point! Fingers crossed.

My son was accepted!!! Yay! The whoops in the house can probably be heard throughout the east coast.

We’ve already laid out the $400 and are trying to figure out how the VT Account stuff works, so he can apply to the Galileo program. If anybody has some tips on the VT Account stuff, please let me know. We entered his email and birthdate, it said the account was ready, but everywhere I go says that it is still a guest account. Does that take time to convert over?

@rbc2018 Took a PTO week from work, and I am definitely a little bored, so was checking the site and email often…very often!

OMG @HokieCrazy! I have this thread tagged just to see your updates and it was quiet for a week. I am so happy for you and your son! This will be a great weekend celebrating I am sure! Congratulations!!!

Has anyone instate got in yet?

LOL - Thank you so much for the support! I think this is the happiest he’s been since he got accepted to Clemson (which was in November, so its been a long time).

Very happy for you and your son @HokieCrazy . I think most of us have been waiting in anticipation along with your family. There was another thread that said it takes about 48 hours after you pay to be able to do all of the other things. Not really sure if that is what they were talking about, but it might be the reason he can’t look at housing right now.

I got off the waitlist today, oos, general engineering. I was wondering if scholarships would’ve came in the same email, or should I be looking on the application portal or something. Best of luck to all those waiting!

@HokieCrazy -Happy to hear your son got in!
My OOS DS also got off the waitlist today for engineering but we’re declining the offer. Good luck to all the other students out there.

Ah, ok. He was trying to get it in as quickly as possible, but that’s likely the issue. I’ll have to read through the other threads a bit. Thank you for your help!

Congratulations everyone who got in!

Congratulations! Just to clarify, no one who is instate has heard anything regarding the waitlist?

@HokieCrazy I’m so excited for your boy. Congratulations! Some happy news in the middle of these weird times. Now sprinkle your good luck dust on the likelihood that they will all get to move to their campuses in August!!

Yeah, that’s the next big question on everybody’s minds…a normal college experience would certainly be great news for a senior class that isn’t likely to have a prom or a normal (if any) graduation.

My son got off wait list today for general engineering. Too little, too late for us. I think we’re All In at Clemson!
