S24’s friend was offered a spot off Johns Hopkins’ waitlist with good aid package yesterday.
I heard of some movement from the WashU waitlist on May 1st but did not hear anything after that. Did you hear more recently?
Any information for CMU waitlist ? Thx
My son just got offered guaranteed transfer admission to UChicago for NEXT year. That school does some crazy stuff in the admissions department. Lol
More movements off of WashU today
At our HS 3 kids have come off WL (that I know of) - one Cornell, one BC and one Vanderbilt.
Is he going to accept it? Hard to pass on that unless he got in somewhere equally as good
All they require is that he express interest in staying on the transfer ‘list’ so-to-speak.
As of today he said he will accept the transfer spot but will probably only transfer if he ends up not really liking where he is committed to going this fall, Lehigh.
Plus, he has the natl ROTC scholarship and Lehigh matches it with free room and board. So he is going to Lehigh for free. We would have to pay room and board at UChicago, which is fine, but my son REALLY likes knowing he is going to college for zero dollars.
He also has to take into account that he will not only be transferring schools but also transferring to a new army battalion as well. That would be tough.
Do we think that many of the UCs have been crickets because of low or high yield rates? My kiddo is waitlisted at Cal and we were hoping that yields would be lower this year but now fearing that yields might actually be higher than anticipated with no/few pre-May 15 waitlist movement. Would love to know others’ thoughts.
Based on the last few years, UCs have gone in waves and tend to drag out longer than other WLs. Know several kids who got off Cal and UCLA in August, and students who got off 3 waitlists but one in May, one in June, and one in July. Unfortunately, it ends up being a big continuous shuffle.
Another factor that may impact UCs this year is that there seem to be many more cross admits. In past years, kids would get 1 or 2 UC admissions, but this year there are a ton of kids who were accepted to 4 to 5 UCs.
Good luck to your student.
Absolutely shocked my son got off waitlist at Brown today. Touring again in a few days.
Congratulations!!! Would you mind sharing your son’s major or area of interest? Thank you!
He talked about public health, economics, and science interests. Thanks!
I didn’t mean the waiting list. I meant the admission process itself.
Thank you for sharing. Best of luck!
Ya, it’s like getting your eyes gouged out. But slowly, over several months.
My son is a rising senior at Brown. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions.
Please note that this Friday is the last day of finals at Brown and many kids have already left campus if their finals ended early. Graduation is over Memorial Day weekend so the campus will be in full swing for that very soon.
Thank you so much! He has visited before and it was his favorite tour so he has some experience. He definitely understands that it is a weird week to tour so not really deciding based on that, just want to get there one last time. He knows it can’t compete to the admit weekends he went to and is mature enough to separate the fluff. He’s going to meet up with a kid that went to his high school too.
He reached out to a handful of pre-med students this morning and got quick responses from a few, very impressed!
Wonderful!
Wishing him well on his decision-making!
