This is the official discussion thread for Wake Forest Class of 2028 RD applicants. Ask your questions and connect with fellow applicants.
There seems to be very little discussion about Wake. Any idea when the RD decisions will come out?
And does anyone know how many spots have already been filled by ED I and II?
Feels like Wake might be using an heavy ED strategy. Has that always been the case, or is that new this year?
We visited and my son really likes Wake Forest and it is one of his top 3. He already has answers from other colleges with merit offers and I’m not sure he is going to wait until April 1 for a WF decision. No early action except for 1st gen. Unless WF has a lot of ED applicants paying full price, they will lose students to other colleges by waiting so long to give regular decisons. According to Jeff Selingo, WF is a seller, not a buyer, so I’m not expecting much merit if any. Would be nice to know. Kind of regretting wasting that application fee, but WF was very appealing for many reasons.
Not sure I agree. Wake gets a lot of overlap in applicants who apply to Duke/Ivies/Vandy/WashU/Emory/william&Mary: those RD decisions come at the end of March/ April 1. Wake is just doing what peer schools do.
Wake already admitted 4-5 kids ED from our school. Their class is only about 225 students, so I don’t think they will take any of our RD kids. They didn’t admit anyone from our school last year, even though the candidates seemed just as qualified as this year. My son applied, but we are doubtful based on the current number of admits already committed. TBD!
Any idea if WF has published how many kids have been admitted ED so far?
I haven’t been able to find any ED data. I was deferred ED but haven’t been able to find any data on the acceptance rate and deferral rates this year. Does anyone know how many deferred ED kids they usually take?
Wake Forest is one of those colleges that seems to now be keeping data about their early programs confidential (like, they have not reported that information in their most recent two CDS). But even if they are enrolling a lot of their class through early programs, likely they still have to admit many more people RD, because RD yields are typically low for such colleges. So they have to admit several people RD for each one they actually enroll RD.
We can see this for the last CDS that ED data was reported, 2020-21. They admitted 773 ED, which likely yielded around 750 enrollees. They admitted 3825 total, so 3052 non-ED, and enrolled 1452 total, so likely around 702 non-ED, which would be around a 23% yield. Which is normal for this level of college. And the bottom line is they admitted almost four people non-ED for every one they admitted ED.
So absent concrete data to the contrary, I would not assume Wake Forest will not admit many people RD. I think it is pretty likely that they will admit a lot of people RD, because they will need to in light of their likely RD yield.
Funny because WF didn’t admit any ED applicants from my kid’s class, so we’re thinking that he won’t be admitted because they must not like his school. Who knows?
Happened at our school last year - zero ED or RD admits. So, yes, who knows?!
Does anyone know what day RD decisions have gone out in the past few years?
I thought last year was 3/17, but two years ago was saturday 3/26!! So, I have no idea what that means for this year.
So, anyone have any opinions, informed or otherwise, on Wake? Seems like it could be as soon as a week from today. On the other hand, adding the new EA for first gen students might have pushed them back from where they otherwise would be.
Have they announced anything about the number of applications or number of admits so far?
Am I right that we won’t hear anything until the day before the announcement date?
I have no clue. Haven’t heard anything. I could give you a best guess, but it would be otherwise.
I know I’m largely posting with myself, but whatever. Anyway, I noticed this week is Spring Break at Wake, does that sound right? I assume that means any decisions this week are unlikely?
So probably pushed out at least to 3/22?
I doubt spring break affects the admissions office.
So do we think this or next Friday?
My guess is probably next Friday, but that’s not based on anything—just the fact that March 15 feels really, really early for Wake.
I’m assuming we won’t know anything until maybe the day before? Does that sound right?
RD released on Friday 3/17 last year.
