I was curious to see if other parents had heard of more peel-and-stick wallpaper being put up in dorm rooms (for one year). This seemed uncommon even just a few years ago, but it appears to be exploding, at least based on pictures online. Does anyone else have any perspectives on how much this has shifted and how commonplace this is becoming?
I don’t know how common it is, but I’d do it in a heartbeat. You weren’t supposed to paint walls in the dorm I lived in, but I painted an accent wall (and made drapes) anyway.
Peel-and-stick is not permanent, so I say go for it if it a-peels to you.

I agree, go for it. We were allowed to paint our dorm rooms, and I did mine in a very bright yellow. It was just so much more cheerful than the drab off white.
I think dorm rooms decor is so much more fun now than when I was in college!

This is a type of thread where one is tempted to say, “Let us know you or your student is female without telling us you or your student is female.” Or the inverse, depending on the response.
I can’t imagine being bothered with dorm room wallpaper or paint color.

For boarding school or college I would confirm it was allowed bc of fire regulations. And I would still worry about wall damage.

It has been a trend for a while at colleges (particularly southern ones) where room decor is a competitive sport.
(And I admit that the results are often, if not entirely practical, enviably attractive. )
Do schools and colleges allow students to paint their dorm room walls or cover them with wallpaper (other than the peel off type)? I didn’t think so, but yes would be good to check the rules.

I have 3 daughters, 2 sons, heck no for 9 months. Only 1 of my daughters would consider it, and she can be very extra.

I’ve seen pictures from various New England boarding schools where students have wallpaper on their dorms, so I do think that it is allowed. However, is it common? Or is this considered to be a bit “extra”?

It might be common but it is not allowed at some schools. Deerfield’s student handbook reads, “Peel-and-stick wallpaper is prohibited in student rooms.” Hotchkiss says, “Peel-and-stick wallpaper and/or related adhesive wall coverings are not permitted.” If you are preparing to decorate a room I would check first.

When my daughter went to school, about five years ago, she and her roommate did it and it looked great. The two moms spent 5-10 hours easy to make it perfect.
