Wannabe Med student

I dont think any of us are truly clear on how your current grades or classes would transfer into either a Canadian or US college system. You need to directly contact each institution you are interested in and discuss what you have done thus far, and what steps you would need to take to apply there.

I think people here’s best guesses is that you should plan to take at minimum 2-3 years of schooling in Canada BEFORE applying to medical school in Canada. In the US you would likely have to plan to take 3-4 years of schooling in the US BEFORE applying to medical school. (So yes, a minimum of 5-8 years of making NO salary before getting the MAYBE small stipend for living expenses AFTER graduating medical school).

IF you are accepted, the soonest you could start would be January 2021 due to admissions process deadlines. http://www.education.gouv.qc.ca/en/colleges/etudiants-au-collegial/college-admission/applying-for-admission/ (fall admission was due March which has passed).

To become an emergency doctor in the US would take you 11 years. (I have worked in the emergency department longer than you have been alive). 4 years of undergraduate, 4 years of medical school, 3 years of residency.

Honestly based on what I am guessing would be the poor translation of grades (even you said science was quite low), I dont even know if a cegep would accept you at this point. You need to have a lot more initiative such as reaching out to the actual schools to prove to them you are serious and want to learn how this might be possible.

In Quebec, it’s CEGEP-> medical school or (for McGill) CEGEP-> University-> Med school.
And you truly have to be among the top 2-3 students in Natural Sciences at your CEGEP.
So, it’s a difficult path.
If you arent among the top 2-3 students in Natural Sciences at your CEGEP, you can switch to Nursing (also at CEGEP.)
An advantage is that for French citizens, CEGEPs are TUITION FREE!!!
(University will then be about €4,500 a year)

Okay perfect.
@2plustrio i saw that at cegep baie comeau the admission deadline isnt over yet.
@MYOS1634 can i transfer from a cegep to mcgill med school directl yor not? ( im not speculating or something im just asking)
And yes i have to reach them directly to know more and to certifyy them that im motivated

Baie Comeau is a great choice because on top of it, its students offer geographic diversity to med schools. I think they beside being tuition free they have scholarships but the deadlines may have passed. Anyway your have to be among their top 2-3 students like everywhere else.

No you can’t go straight from cegep to McGill. You theoretically could but in reality to have a shot students don’t - McGill is a world-class university (like Harvard or Oxford) and you need to have a very very very strong application.

Not exactly, while the US and Canada do share a common accreditation system, the standardized exams required are different. US med students are required to take the USMLE exams while Canadian take the the MCCQE. The exams are different in structure and cover different material. Student attending Canadian medical programs need to to study for and take the USMLEs if they wish to enter a medical residency in the US.

Also the number of US residencies that sponsor visas for internationals is limited, regardless of where they obtained their medical degree.

@MYOS1634 But on baie comeau’s website their deadlines arent passed.
Im actually applying for ‘’ sciences humaines ‘’ is it good or i have to apply for ‘’ sciences de la nature ‘’?

And also, if i want to integrate mcgill med school which path should i choose then? Im sorry to ask this, im asking it to write some paths in my brain to have a clear vision of it

You have to apply for sciences de la nature.
Yes you can apply, you’ve got to hurry but you still can - but I know Baie Comeau has scholarships and the deadline for that may have passed.

But without scolarship i still dont pay that much?

no, if you’re French, you don’t pay tuition at all. The scholarship helps with rent for a room on-campus, I think.

Im applying in two days. The thing is that my former high school is now closed due to the covid 19; and they have all of my school reports… Im lost…

@MYOS1634 im in a website called : SRACQ. I registered etc… but i never had a requirement saying that they want m yschool report. Is that normal?

It must come up at some point?

Never mind. They want my school reports. Im really sweating @MYOS1634 because they will refuse me… So it’s completely impossible if i got rejected to pursue my dream?

My reports are like : Chatting, absences, weak results …

Yes, your high school is closed, but the administrators might still be working remotely from their homes. So email them and ask about this.

You need to get your results, send them in and let them be the judge.

It doesnt mean you can never reach your dream, it just will likely take you longer to get there.

@happymomof1 is right. Your school should be able to send this.

I got my transcripts!

Okay i have to apply through SRACQ which is i think a governement website ( quebec)… I wanted to ask you, i dont have my birth extract for now, can i still apply without this document!?

I don’t think you need it at all!
