This is the official discussion thread for Washington U. in St Louis Class of 2028 RD applicants. Ask your questions and connect with fellow applicants.
Does anyone know in past years if the RD decision happened before April 1. The website says a notification would come by April 1. So I’m just curious if it actually happens before? Thanks!
I believe last year it was March 23.
Edit: Looks like the two years before that (2022 and 2021) it was March 24.
I have a question about merit scholarships. Are all applications sent to the departments for review for merit? Or does the admissions committee first pick out those they will select from ED/RD admission and then send those to the departments? Thanks.
So I understand that their early merit scholarship offers come with de facto early admission decisions.
How in practice they coordinate to make sure both the scholarship people and admissions people are aligned, I do not know (and I am also not sure why it would matter).
I was just curious how they have time to review all of the regular decision applications in February when the actual admission decisions don’t come out until late March. Since the merit scholarships are usually announced around the third week of February.
Yes, presumably they must have some way of quickly tagging the plausible candidates for scholarships, communicating that to all the relevant decision makers, and then coordinating all the relevant processes to make sure they come together in time, which implicitly involves a fast-tracking of admissions.
So although speculative, it would probably not be a bad bet that, say, potential Scholars and Finalists may have already made it through some sort of initial sorting and are into that fast-track phase. Or if not, sometime soon–it would depend perhaps on how many they select initially before making the final cut. Because if not too many get selected initially, they may only need a relatively short time for review. The more generous they are initially, in contrast, the more time they might need to finalize their decisions.
What are usually the chances of acceptance after getting deferred from ED1 to the RD pool? LOCI letter sent. The alumni interviewer on her own sent another letter and spoke to admissions about me as well. 2nd qt grades went up 1 point from first qt, and report will be sent by the high school this coming week. Thanks
To my knowledge, WUSTL has not published this data, but it wouldn’t really be useful anyway. Each applicant is their own story and the pool acceptance rate is not really the same thing as your individual odds.
Does anyone think merit scholarships might be announced this weekend?
Did they announce merit scholarships before the RD notifications in the previous years?
Yes. Finalists and Scholars are de facto early admits.
Good to know this! My D24 has been wondering whether/when some good news could arrive before RD notifications. For WashU, she submitted an essay for Danforth Scholars and an architecture portfolio for James W. Fitzgibbon Scholarship. Hope she would be lucky.
I got a call about Ervin Scholars today saying I was selected as a finalist - apparently emails are sent out tomorrow.
i also got a call!
How many people are invited for interview?
So according to this:
How many scholars are part of your programs?
68 Danforths, 120 Ervins, 89 Rodriguez.
The problem, of course, is that doesn’t say how many Finalists there are. And I have never seen that information personally (although it might be published somewhere).
Do they announce the finalists in a same day (say today) for all merit scholarship programs including those at school levels?
That is a very good question. The information on even what they call the Signature Scholarship process is pretty sketchy. I believe in the past, though, the calls/emails/portal updates for all of those have happened on the same timeline.
For the other merit programs they call Academic Scholarships, there just is not much even anecdotal information. To be fair, these are much smaller programs, particularly individually. And unless I am mistaken, I think with those you just get the scholarship, there is no finalist round with interviews and such. But other than believing you will know this month, and probably sooner rather than later at this point, I am not confident predicting it will happen, say, today.
