34 ACT 3.9/4.44 GPA waitlisted
S24 accepted! 1550 SAT, National Merit Finalist, US Presidential Scholar candidate, 4.0 UW, ranked 11/354, 8 APs (4s or 5s on all so far), lots of leadership roles at school and 3 National level fellowships/internships all related to his intended major, including a research award. Waitlisted at a couple schools last week, so nice to get an acceptance
was accepted and the email did still say that!
IMO high school data/trends from past years is extremely important to make note of when applying. at our HS nobody ever gets into UVA - even kids ranked in top 5 - they just do not ever take from our school.
D24 was accepted RD without interview and without video.
yes can also confirm that message is in message regardless of decision.
Rejected
Firstâyour daughter sounds amazing, hardworking, talentedâa total super star. Iâm not surprised she has lots of choices and the school that gets her will be very lucky. As for WashU, my DS was accepted EDânobody from our high school had ever applied there. Our advisor told us that if he wanted to go there (it was far and away his first choiceâperfect program for him) he needed to apply ED otherwise admissions might think he was applying from the northeast as âjust another selective school to toss his hat in the ringâ if that makes sense. (I do not know how anyone could describe even one of these selective school applications as a âhat tossâ mind you with all the essays and videos etc, just repeating what was said to us.) So, I donât know if this is really how WashU sees the pool. Only have this one experience. Congrats on all of your daughterâs acceptances!!
Maybe they assumed your kid would get bigger offers? Iâm glad they have their first choice!
I was accepted to Princeton, Rice, Notre Dame and Northwestern and rejected from Wash U, two years ago. So you just never know! (Rejected from Michigan too!) But most of us land where we were supposed to land.
My D24 was accepted! Her school list is all over the place but here are her results so far.
Where applicable, she applied to the business school.
Loyola Chicago - accepted with scholarship
University of Denver - accepted with scholarship
Fordham - accepted with scholarship
University of Florida - accepted, no scholarship
UT Austin (in state) - accepted, no scholarship
Northeastern Boston - waitlisted
UVA - waitlisted
UNC Chapel Hill - Rejected
USC - deferred from EA, waiting on decision
Syracuse - waiting on decision
Vanderbilt- waiting on decision
Congrats to those who were accepted!
Very interesting and I appreciate your taking the time to share. Congrats to your son!!
my DS did and he is SO EXCITED. What a program! I went to art school and wish I could do it all over again at Sam Fox.
I absolutely think it helps if students from your high school have gone there before and done well.
I donât necessarily think that is fair, but nothing about this is fair, these colleges have their own interests. And one of them is usually creating a reliable, predictable core around which they spice it up. And so the reliable core path is easier than the spice it up path, and if your HS doesnât have a track record you might be competing in the harder spice it up path.
So the same high schools keep being reliable core path schools and the system keeps perpetuating itself cycle after cycle. Which is not something you have to love, but nor should you take it personally. It is all just institutions doing what they see as being the best strategies for themselves.
Absolutely agree with all said here - ED just has a smaller pool and it helps a strong candidate stand out where the entire RD pool is swimming with strong candidates. The high stats of so many not admitted this afternoon speaks to that.
Rejected but didnât get email to check portal. No email at all.
Congratulations on your daughterâs acceptance. Would you mind sharing any stats: GPA, Test scores, etc.?
and both AO and coordinator still there LOL
Weâre over it, daughter is happy with her options so Iâm happy too! The high school thing is something I hadnât really delved into. Itâs interesting⊠another thing that doesnât quite feel right about this crazy process, but what are ya gonna do Thanks for sharing your insights!

Just curious. 1580 SAT, 4.0/4.4 GPA (school doesnât offer many honors or APs), 7 APs with all 5s and one 4, great ECs (CTO at AI startup, 5.0 stars over 86 reviews programming on Fiverr, XC/track top in the state, Eagle Scout, several president club positions, etc.) Valedictorian, National Merit Scholar, multiple national/state CS awards, 4th in national French exam (top 0.1%), etc. Accepted to Vanderbilt on full tuition, Honors program at Notre Dame, GT out of state for CS, etc. Applied for Danforth scholar and special joint-major program, so wrote several extra essays.
