I didn’t realize it was on last night- I never watch tv, but I watched the episode on Hulu this morning while I was waiting for my aspirin to kick in.
:)

So I don’t get why this show is so popular & Cop Rock- was a joke?
I * loved* Cop Rock!
[Before ‘Glee,’ there was ‘Cop Rock’ and ‘That’s Life’ - Los Angeles Times](Before 'Glee,' there was 'Cop Rock' and 'That's Life')
Plus, the music moved the story along- outside of the singing, it was a regular cop show.( plus Stephen Bocho-Ronny Cox, Barbara Bosson & Peter Onorati? <B )
Glee pretty much exists for the musical numbers which is o.k, but I think it could be better if the music moved the story, it wasn’t just a showcase for copycat choreography.

I do hope Glee pays more attention to Coach Beast- and I realize that it isn’t realistic, but I think it would be more effective if it didn’t continue to throw logic/ethics out the window.

I really did dislike last night’s episode. I am waiting to see if there’ll be a real story line (besides trying to get to the Nationals) will come on to last us for the rest of the season.

Anyhow, that episode completely confirmed why I dislike Britney Spears as a singer/songwriter. I never heard her songs but have seen clips of her music videos and thought every one of them was disgusting and inappropriate.

Really, I had flashbacks to my high school years when baring midriffs were all in rage while watching this episode, particularly when Rachel walked in with that Catholic Schoolgirl outfit… thanks Britney for making that such a trend! She was a terrible influence all around.

I really liked Finn’s line, “How can you be caught between the moon and New York City? Aren’t they 100 miles apart?” I thought the naked kid in Sue’s office was totally weird as was the way that kid behaved when the kids were performing. I loved the principal’s intro to the kids’ performance. I’ve never in my life been under gas at a dentists and I’ve had gum surgery, wisdom teeth removed, root canals, etc. I guess I need to move to Ohio.

So much to be annoyed with in last night’s episode. In addition to all that has been mentioned, Sue’s rants, usually amusing, are going over the top. Had to watch reruns of Friday Night Lights to recover from the bad show. We’ll give Glee another week or two before giving it up entirely.

Yeah, both episodes so far this season have sucked. I want actual plot lines, please. And maybe more appropriate/relevant ones? No one is as neurotic and crazy as Rachel, and no normal guy would tolerate her incessant jealousy and controlling tactics.

Sue and Britney (Brittany?) are the only ones who are really funny anymore. I want more Puck and Santana and Mercedes; they were always more realistic and frankly better characters.

I’m in agreement with so many of you, last night’s episode was awful. A (very) few funny lines, no plot, terrible musical numbers and creepy… I am glad that Brittany (the one on the show) got to show her dance skills, but I miss Mercedes, Tina, Puck and some of the others.
Can’t stand Rachel.

I did not watch this week, partially because I hated the first show of this season. The whole accusation of sexual abuse really bothered me. Sue is funny in small doses, but that episode had way too much Sue for me. And I agree about Rachel - there is nothing appealing about her now.

I am not a prude…really not, but there have been a few eps that have pushed the limits for me.

Brittnay’s an absolutely wonderful dancer, and Santana did a great impression of Madonna. Loved their dance numbers. Felt very skeevy about the rest.

Shue should not preform with those kids. Love seeing him dance. Really do, but not with the kids. The over the limit was the student in the stand screaming ‘don’t stop’…the one who had been naked in front of Sue. That was just too much for me.

I really don’t like to feel ‘dirty’ watching TV… certainly not with my kids. Glee was such a good thing and they have pushed too far. I have no problem with the sexual orientation of the students. I see it all the time at the high school, as do my kids. What I don’t want to see is overt sexual moves between adults and teens, and ‘American Pie’ type moments on prime time network.

I also agree, Lea Michele was so weak last night. From her acting, singing, dancing… all paled to the rest of the characters. She’s is quite the little diva. No reason really based on last nights performance…

Unfortunately even though most of us did not like Tuesday night’s episode I heard on the radio this morning that it was the second most watched episode of Glee ever.

Much of what people seem to feel was inappropriate was pure re-enactment of Britney Spears videos that every middleschooler in the country saw a decade ago, and that today’s middleschoolers could watch on youTube if they cared. I pretty much hated those videos then, but that horse seems to have left the barn a long time ago, so I can’t muster much anger at Glee for not shutting the door.

And the (brief) discussion of Britney and young women’s self-image was interesting and enlightening.

The (repeated) masturbation jokes seemed over the top to me, but I notice that the youth of today seems to love masturbation jokes, and to regard them as merely a little naughty, not horribly embarrassing. In any event, they are all over the place.

Mr. Shoemaker should not be dancing with the kids. He should not be dancing to Britney Spears songs. But the show acknowledged that. And they have to come up with some excuses to get him into song-and-dance numbers.

I loved seeing Heather Morris get a chance to shine. AND a last name.

Much of what people seem to feel was inappropriate was pure re-enactment of Britney Spears videos that every middleschooler in the country saw a decade ago

Its one thing to say everyone has seen it ( I hadn’t- but then we haven’t had cable since 1981), it’s another to have inappropriate content come into your home on " free tv", during an hour when 10 year olds may be watching with their families.

But I don’t think Glee is appropriate or targeting elementary school students anyway. ( or should be) Speaking to the sexual interest of middle schoolers is pretty lower common denominator & sounds like " if everybody does it- does that make it Ok?" to my ears.

I watched about 1/2 the season last year, I didn’t like the foreshadowing of the storyline that was introduced in the pilot with Mr Schuster & his wife, because it was so obvious they were going to make her into a witch & drag that thread throughout the season to add to the " drama"
( anyone notice that virtually all of the female characters have a huge flaw?-don’t they have anyone who isn’t a misogynist on the writing staff?)

I would watch it if they balanced the song and dance numbers with a storyline about a believable character ( Puck or Coach Beast for instance- not Puck * and* Coach Beast)

( and better songs- Britney is kinda dated and Rachel dressing like a Britney music video was so contrived- but I would watch a show that was more * Fame- Step-Up or Drumline*, that attempted to approach issues students deal with in school, not pander to " adult" fantasies of their high school years)

As far as dancing goes, they should feature Harry Shum, as much as possible.
They are really wasting his talent.

Luckily there is much better stuff on Tv , 30 Rock for instance puts more entertainment value and insight, into 20 or so minutes than Glee does with twice as long.

“Much of what people seem to feel was inappropriate was pure re-enactment of Britney Spears videos that every middleschooler in the country saw a decade ago”

I don’t get that statement either. Take the re-enactment of Britney videos out and Glee is still not a family show. And it is on at 8.

I know people really like this show, so i am not going to write what I think about this show.

And EmeraldKity4 has good musical taste…and probably has good taste in shows too. :)

I was curious enough to go watch some Britney Spears videos on YouTube (which are all available to any kid of any age with a computer and Internet) – and her version of Toxic is much more suggestive and inappropriate for young children than what Glee did. I’m not defending Glee necessarily, just agreeing with JHS.

I watch Glee for the songs and the humor – it is mindless entertainment. It is about as far from reality as a show could get, and the absurdity level seems to rise with every episode. I assume that’s on purpose. I do appreciate that on occasion they handle a social issue with sensitivity – Kurt and his dad, for example – but they seem to be veering away from that more.

Mr. Shue should not have danced with the kids – and the show made it very clear that he made a mistake. He did not get anywhere with Emma as a result of his behavior. And Rachel acted like an idiot, and in the end realized that she was acting stupidly and with her last song was suggesting that she would change her behavior. She was conveying a positive message, that she didn’t want Finn to change for her. Hopefully she won’t revert.

Ideally, parents should watch Glee with their kids and use it as a teaching moment.

Given a choice, I’d watch Glee over just about every music video ever made. I find most of them to be misogynistic and overly sexual and downright disturbing.

This was not my favorite Glee episode, but I won’t stop watching.

Fireandrain, I agree with everything you said. I watch Glee for the entertainment…for the dancing and singing. If I had young kids at home, I would certainly talk with them about what was going on, if I let them watch it. I will reiterate that they were representing Britanny Spears as the iconic figure she indeed was during that era. They were clear in saying that Mr. Shue should NOT have danced with the kids, yet it certainly was entertaining to watch him and listen as he did it, which is the point of this show.

Relax a bit, folks! Nobody is making you watch…but I surely am glad I get to! I am pretty excited to see the episode that Adam Shankman just finished directing…it’s supposed to be a Rocky Horror homage and broadcast around Halloween. Probably some of you might not want to watch that, I suspect. You might go blind. :)

I don’t have a lot of shows I watch- I don’t watch television/cable- I watch House- 30 Rock, Bones & started watching Glee ( on Hulu or Netflix) earlier this year when I participated in a flashmob.
Thats it.
I acknowledge that no one forced me to watch- but I feel disappointed that it has devolved so quickly into something that is pandering to those who are titillated by imagining sexually aware teens.

I don’t have an issue with Ms Spears, and I am far from a prude , but as an adult I feel I have a responsibility towards ALL young people, and part of that is not contributing to sexual objectification of children ( I realize that the actors are not below the age of 18, but they were chosen because they could believably portray those who were).

The character of Mr Shue saying " he knew he shouldn’t have danced with the kids" , is like someone knowing that they wouldn’t get permission, so they will apologize afterwards and it will be OK.

That was only the smallest part of why that episode left me feeling so unclean.
If I have to explain to those who don’t understand what was wrong with it, why I was so repulsed, I obviously will be wasting my breath.

Combine with the previous episode and it leads me to believe the next one will have jumped the shark.

Rocky Horror is a classic & it involves adults- naive adults to be sure- but there isn’t any hint that they are not adult & it is relatively tame compared to high school teachers abusing their students sexually, to adults giving high school students unneccessary drugs that get them " high" & high school teachers that exploit their position to further their sexual relationships.

OK, guys! Is there anyone else out there who was as moved as I was by tonight’s show? Such a great way to explore spirituality and the search for meaning and the “sacred” (as Kurt would say) using this show…with light-hearted moments thrown in.
