Watch "Glee"

^
They’re usually posted on youtube.

I used the TiVo slow motion over the preview, and Emma was sitting in the audience during sectionals talking into her cell phone saying “It’s show time.” I assume that she was talking to Will.

I miss Lost, now THAT was a show for slow motion :-)

Music last night was amazing-both Mercedes and Rachel were outstanding, but I don’t think the episode was as good as last weeks. Winning the competition was kind of predictable as was Will and Emma’s kiss.

I see that a DVD of Glee episodes is supposed to be released at the end of December. That will have to tide us over until April.

Your thoughts on the fall finale?

Didn’t everyone think this when Lea sang Don’t Rain on My Parade?! They always talk about how difficult it is to cast the Fanny Brice role…must be young, great voice, not Barbie doll gorgeous, preferably Jewish…we’ve got our Fanny Brice! It really needs to happen.

That number was made for the Rachel character, and Lea Michele nailed it, including all the scenery-chewing she did.

The plot developments were straight out of 101 Dramatic Cliches. But I loved the discussion among the judges, none of whom had gotten anything out of any of the performances. I also wish they could find a permanent role for Eve (and induce her to take it).

I really enjoyed this show last night… these actors/actresses are very talented… I have always loved the music from Funny Girl and Rachel did nail her song, as did Mercedes… I love how everyone here refers to the GC as the GC… WHAT is her name on the show? she is such an intriguing character…seems so mousy and deferential… and yet, she is spot on with her advice etc… and Sue is absolutely my favorite… “you have just awoken a sleeping giant… prepare to be crushed!” was a GREAT line… her delivery is pitch perfect… she totally rocks sweat suits… this show is a delight…

I love it that they keep having Sue make fun of Will’s hair…he’s hot, but his hair is…odd.

GC’s name is Emma Pillsbury (Ms. P. to the kids).

loved Lea Michele’s rendition; and yes, missypie, we do need a revival of Funny Girl on Broadway and I think we already have our star; we should get together and produce it for the summer hiatus from TV…haha…

For those of you youngins who are saying, “huh, what is Funny Girl?” (as my daughter said last night), there is a you tube clip on AOL homepage this morning of Barbra’s classic clip…

Lea Michele definitely needs to get back to Broadway as Fanny Brice! The songs last night were excellent. At the end of the show DD said to me that she is will be going through Glee withdrawls having to wait 4 months to see it again.

I’ll actually get glad (for the sake of my Ds’ grades) that Glee and So You Think You Can Dance will be over for a long while!

DD texted me after the show “I want more Glee!”. She has a final exam today and took a study break just to watch. Love the music!

Other things I love about the show:

– How, having humanized Sue Sylvester with a dance number and an institutionalized sister, they have resisted the temptation to make her nicer.
– The anticipation that sooner or later Jane Lynch, who has done musical theater, is going to be given a song. Maybe a duet with the principal?
– “Other Asian”
– The costuming for Rachel. It is radically unfashionable and inappropriate, but always just cute enough to maintain the character’s delicate balance among being sympathetic, obnoxious, and attractive.

JHS…I just LOVE your thought that Jane Lynch/Sue Sylvester will have a song… I missed her dance number, but did catch her visit with her institutionalized sister and thought it was very moving…you are spot on that she might have a duet with the principal…how sweet would that be?? excellent idea…the show should hire you as a consultant… I do not know what “nationality” the principal is supposed to be, but a Bollywood sing and dance thing with Sue would be icing on the cake that is “Glee”

I also loved the judges in last night’s episode…totallly unqualified and disinterested. I think most of us who have participated in a judged event can relate.

A few years back, a local HS hosted a national debate tournament. It was after school had gotten out, so they had a very hard time finding judges. Toward the end, the forensics booster club parents were asking everyone they knew to judge. How’d you like to be the kids who worked so hard at debate that they made nationals, only to be judged by someone who had never even seen a round of debate?!

Loved last night’s music, but I’m left pondering…

Why is Will attracted to somewhat dysfunctional women?

Where is Quinn living now…did I miss something?

How can they make Sue even more mean?

1) because he is a man…
2) ? I guess home (or did she get thrown out?)
3) sounds like Sue is just gearing up for war…

Right about Quinn…I thought of that immediately. They should have at least had one of the girls say, “you can stay with me…”

DVR issues made us miss the first 20 minutes which we will catch online later. I loved the judges – most especially the freeze-frame moments where we were given their backgrounds in print. I just thought that was too funny.

It was a fantastic end to the first part of the season. Rachel’s thing about having practiced that Streisand number since she was 5 rang true because she literally sounded like Barbra, which is quite a compliment to her voice and phrasing abilities.

What really struck me was the wedding reception scene in the empty VFW hall. And what particularly struck me is that it was shot with natural sound. You could hear the actual hall with the background and ambient quiet of the place with its machinery. That is a rare bit of honest filming.

As for what motivates Will, this is a post-modern show that mixes the absurd and surreal with the very real. I don’t expect rationality, just that it be well done.

I really liked the little scene in the green room when the Cheerio says that Glee is the best part of her day. That’s a great comment because it mirrors a lot of the show’s overall message: that there are things we have to do and the things we choose to do. Finn has lived that. Quinn has lived that - and that actress is doing a great job finding depth in her character - particularly when she told Sue that she prefers being with people who like her. We have Puck doing this in reverse: he chooses to be screw up and romeo but he wants to choose to be responsible.
