Weight Loss Buddy Check In

Wed weigh-in:
Goal: -15
progress: -14

Calories (avg): 1300**
Exercise (avg): none (giving my right leg a rest - got a little sore running)
** 7 day averages from MyNetDiary app

No weight loss progress (in fact up 1/4 lb, but that’s within rounding error). I’m OK with that - I had some candy splurging for Halloween and no exercise). It does mean I won’t meet my original goal/timeline for Nov 4th (491 cals per day per the app - ummmm - NO). But that was based on a somewhat arbitrary approx-1lb/per week target. I’m trying to focus instead on my appreciation for fitting into my old pants, a size or two smaller than when I started in July.

I think the Pilates mat class might be paying off. My waist measurement has finally moved. Down 1 inch since I started Pilates. Hips are down another 1/2 inch. My newest pants are feeling better if I put a belt on with them.

I’m impressed by folks that do Pilates! Even the yoga classes I’ve tried have been too hard.

@colorado_mom - count me as one who was afraid of Pilates. Put it off for years. When I made the decision this I needed to do more than walk I also made the commitment to myself that I was going to put aside my feeling of not being good at something as a reason to not try new things. I’ve slowly added a few new things to my routine. Today I pushed myself to try a new Pilates class. The Pilates class I’m most enjoying is called Pilates with Props. That instructor explains everything and walks around and helps. The class today was called Pilates fusion and it was faster paced and a lot of the movements are hard for me. I’m not the least bit flexible and many of the exercises where most people have their legs straight I’m still having my knees bent.
My gym membership came with 3 one hour private training sessions that I still haven’t used 10 months later. My friend joined this week and she is already using hers. She offered to let me come along. That way we will have 6 tandem sessions. Having a friend who is enthusiastic for all this gym has to offer is pushing me to try new things.

Wed weigh-in:
Goal: -15
progress: - 15 (since July)

HOORAY.

Congratulations @colorado_mom!

@colorado_mom at goal, fabulous! Hope you’ll keep checking in from time to time to help motivate those of us who aren’t there yet. It is so encouraging to read others’ stories.

I just moved under the 170 pound mark! Had been discouraged when my post-trip weight was three pounds up; I had certainly enjoyed some treats but had been so much more active than usual that I didn’t expect such a big increase. Fast forward a week (which included a food festival as well as D’s birthday dinner), and those three pounds are gone plus an additional half pound.

This has been a good reminder to self of the importance of regular weigh-ins as well as keeping the long view and using non-scale methods to assess progress (wish I had taken measurements when I began this journey!).

Never too late to start with the measurements! I find that once the “easy” weight loss is accomplished, the measurements are very motivating when the scale doesn’t move as much. Great job and attitude, @yauponredux!

@yauponredux - I think it’s important to let loose a bit on vacation. (I did in Sept. I still tracked food AND the alchoholic beverages for learning. But I splurged… just not quite as much as in prior years. It meant s regression on weight loss, but so be it.)

@sabaray - I don’t do measurements. But that’s because I never got rid of the old pants that didn’t fit. They tell the real story. (I have a pear shaped figure. I probably don’t want to know about losses in the top half of my body.)

Goal: -33
Lbs to goal: 16
Total progress since 7/5: -17
Eating strategy: WW and 16:8 Intermittent Fasting. I have been a bit off track for the past two weeks, but fortunately have managed to keep things from getting completely out of control.
Exercise completed this week: commuter biking to and from work (about 20 minutes each way). Bodypump before work 3 days this week (alarm at 4:50!)

@GCmom - You’ve past the half way point. Good job! It sounds like you have been adding some cool exercise. Kudos on the 4:50am wake-up… .not easy!

I will remember @GCmom 's 4:50 alarm when I am struggling to workout at 9 am!

I cannot imagine getting up at 4:50 to exercise. I’m in awe.
Fit of clothes is another good way of measuring changes. I’m so happy when I put on my skinny jeans that used to be tight and now they are baggy. I think one thing that happen with me was that in the winter I get into the habit of wearing leggings or yoga pants and you don’t notice the small changes in the waistline. It’s something I’m going to try to be more aware of this winter.
Had my major Food defect flare up today. I went to the gym at noon and exercised a couple of hours. I hadn’t had any lunch. I came out and had some errands to do and I was starved. I could barely think at the market. Everything looked good including candy, chips and bread. I ended up getting a slice of hot turkey breast. I devoured it when I got in my car. Of course I was still hungry so ate 1/2 a dark chocolate bar. I know that’s my weakness and I really need to have a lunch packed in my car that I eat before I leave the gym.
Weight is 2 lbs from my next goal. I’m hoping I make it by thanksgiving.
Accomplishment - I ordered a couple of dresses in search of my MOG outfit. Both dresses I ordered were way to big. Reordered in a size I haven’t worn in several years. That feels good.

Full disclosure… up 2 lbs from last Wednesday’s “goal met” victory. But it was not unexpected. The kids were home for early Thanksgiving / turkey (which they dubbed Fakes-giving) and football fun. Plus I was only able to run once. The smaller pants still do fit… but I’ll be back to more sensible eating/exercise now… mehopes.

@mom60 yes, yes,yes way to go!!!

I am back under my goal weight again, despite a bit of splurging at a great Thanksgiving weekend in Sante Fe. I’ve mostly been wearing old/outgrown pants, but i did decide to buy a new pair of NYDJ jeans after meeting my goal. I am not a big jeans person, so I decided on a black pair … size 8

I’m struggling with “goal weight.” I’m stuck at 8 lbs higher than what I thought was my goal. I’ve been hitting the gym hard and while the scale isn’t moving much, clothes are fitting better. @colorado_mom I bought NYDJ cords at the Nordstrom Rack’s sale, also size 8. Love them! Also got a top in large which needs to be returned for a medium.

@aMacMom- I find I’m getting stuck at a weight even if I’m hitting the gym and eating well. But I also find if I stick with the routine the scale does eventually move. @colorado_mom - yeah to new pants!
I ate a lot of carbs over Thanksgiving but I was good about the desserts. Most of them weren’t worth the calories plus I acknowledged that I was full from the meal and the thought of eating more made me feel sick. I’m back on track with exercise and clean eating and I feel pretty good.
Progress- got on scale this morning and it is down a lb. I am now down 16 lbs from when this thread started. My goal is to lose another 11 lbs. My S is getting married in 10 months and I want to look and feel good.
The best news I have is that my youngest child has watched me work out and eat better and has made the decision that she needs to do something about her health and weight gain. She gained a lot of weight for many reasons but it started with a medication and has increased steadily over the last 3 years. She went home from Thanksgiving and found a small women’s only gym near her house. She is starting up a 28 day challenge with a workout 5 mornings a week. I’m proud of her.

^ That is so great! My chunky college student has started running again. His weight isn’t so different, but he is getting outside and moving.

Adding another plug for Pilates. When I started recording my weight again I also took hip and waist measurements. My hips slimmed out but my waist measurement refused to move. Just over a month ago my strength training teacher suggested I try mat Pilates. I’m happy to say that when I measured my waist today I am 2 inches smaller. I wouldn’t have believed it could make such a difference.
