Wesleyan University Class of 2020

Wesleyan is generous with financial aid - once you get in. But, they’re not need-blind by any means when it comes to international students. You have to pretty much be Ivy caliber in order to qualify for aid (and, hence, accepted.)

@RightHand Thank you!

@RightHand where did you get that info?

@ilikewaffles The website used to say March 25th, I just checked and now it says “late March”, maybe because I’m on a phone?

The 3PM part is still correct though, people who got early writes started posting around that time, same for last year’s thread too.

Hey, sorry this might be a little offtopic, but I have a question that I hope might be answered here.

I was accepted by Wesleyan approximately two weeks ago. Yesterday, I received an email from Wesleyan offering to give me free transportation, meals, and accommodations for a visit to the Wesleyan campus during April (I’m assuming this is during WesFest, but they didn’t give me exact dates yet).

I really would love to visit the campus. Also, I really want meet the other accepted students, but I am like 90% sure I will not end up attending Wesleyan (I am very interested in studying medicine, and I was accepted to MIT).

Do you think I should take up the offer, or would it be unfair to Wesleyan since I would be going with my mind almost already made up? I can’t afford a trip to Connecticut otherwise, so the idea of traveling is very appealing for me. However, I’m feeling pretty guilty, as Wesleyan would be essentially paying for me to visit for nothing (in terms of me actually attending Wesleyan).

Thank you in advance for any advice!

PS: I live in California, so plane tickets would be quite expensive for Wesleyan to buy.

@hi13579 I do think that you using Wesleyan that way is unethical. They have limited funds, as does any college. If they spend it on you when you are going to MIT then someone else might not get the chance to visit who might actually attend. You’re asking the right question - you are feeling uncomfortable since you know in your heart it is wrong.

@hi13579 on the other hand from your description it sounds as if you may not even visited MIT. I think it is difficult making a decision just based on stats, what you read online and virtual tours. My daughter thought she had her mind made up prior to her visit and discovered she loved Wesleyan and is excited to start this Fall. So you never really know until you experience the campus and the people. As long as you have an open mind I think it is important to have a physical experience. Good luck!

I wouldn’t call it unethical to come visit Wesleyan. If you have already made a deposit to another school, then it would be unethical to take a paid visit. Or if you used the plane ticket to come east and then went to look at a different school, that would be unethical. But if you came with an open mind, gave it a fair look, and honestly compared it to other schools, then I think that’s what they are paying to have you come do

If there is a reasonable chance that this trip would change your mind (and it might) it’s not unethical. If you’re just in it for the tourism, it is.

Thank you so much for your answers. After thinking about it and discussing with my parents, I’ve decided to not go. Even though I haven’t put down a deposit anywhere and I haven’t been able to visit MIT (@stresseddad is right), one of the reasons why MIT has always appealed to me (as a science nerd) is because I’ve heard firsthand accounts of what my friends do there and its culture (I unfortunately don’t have any friends attending Wesleyan). As a result, it is indeed very unlikely a visit to Wesleyan would change my opinion, and I do hope that whoever uses the money Weselyan would have otherwise allocated to my travels will have a fantastic time and perhaps be convinced to call Wesleyan their new home for the next 4 years! Thank you all so much for your thoughtful advice; I really appreciate it  Congrats to everyone here who got in Wesleyan, and I hope you guys have lots of fun if you’re going to WesFest!

anxiously waiting. I’m figuring it could go either way but probably a no. 3.49/4.12, 28, but heavily involved in music at the national level.

Is WesFest only for a select few students?

No it’s the admitted students event for everybody

Hey, is anyone here a Freeman Asian Scholars applicant?
I’m kinda confused about whether we’ll get our admission decision on the same day as those who are not, and from stalking the previous threads I’m assuming it’s gonna take a hell of a wait before I get any packages to arrive at my place.

Wesfest seems to be a 3-day event from the 13th to the 15th, but I’m assuming you can attend as much or as little of it as you want.

the decisions will be out on April 1st, it is on the website link

I’m pretty sure they come out today @gispiano

Twitter shows them being sent out today!

@stresseddad I don’t see that tweet. Which account do you see that on?

From a blog post from the Wesleyan Newsletter… (http://newsletter.blogs.wesleyan.edu/2016/02/01/2020applications/), it says"

Regular decision applicants will be notified of admission decisions on March 25, and all 2020 prefrosh are welcome to campus for WesFest 2016 on April 13-15.
