THIS!!! the middle preforming group at my school are getting into their target/reaches no problem whereas I’m getting deferral after rejection after waitlist…i mean my stats aren’t necessarily PERFECT but I’ve taken 12 APs with A’s in pretty much all of them, including calc Bc, Physics C, etc and varsity rowing & part time job during all of my extra time for all 4 years…yet ik people with multiple Cs on their transcript, barely any ECs, under 4 APs getting into schools that deferred me…it’s low-key sad like i could’ve just not tried all of HS and saved myself the stress just to end up at the same schools i may end up having worked my butt off.

performing** I typed this angrily and quickly following opening my rejection lol pardon any typos

I’m so sorry. You’re obviously a fabulously well qualified student. As much as we all want to speculate and rationalize, I think college admissions at this level often comes down to good and bad luck. I hope your luck turns around soon! My guess is that it will.

accepted somehow? blown away–i know wesleyan is especially tough given the lack of supplements

i’d like to add that i dont think I am entitled to any decisions at all…but I’m just having trouble not comparing myself to friends with significantly lower stats than me having better results…it just makes me wish I had not put myself through all of this academic and time strain just to end up at a safety school with others who put in MAYBE half the effort

It’s raw right now. You will feel better in a few days. Doing all the hard work will help you in college, wherever you go. You’ve learned a lot and no one can take that away from you. It’s important to always do your best. And you’re clearly a hard worker. Don’t compare yourself to others, we don’t have any idea what the challenges are in someone else’s life. I’m sure you will end up in a fantastic college.

It is a reach school. And you just never know with reach schools. You can meet all the qualifications and still not get in. Along with most people!

THIS, exactly. Rejection will leave you raw for a little while. But the point of all the work you do in high school is not just to get into a selective college. It’s to equip you to do your very best no matter where you go to college. You can get a phenomenal education just about anywhere, if you have the tools. Working hard in high school gives you those tools.

There’s a lot of heartbreak in March, but this time next year, it will be different story (a much better one).

Thank you guys for this–it’s really nice to hear.

I’m going to remind myself that all of the hard work wasn’t just to get into a ā€œprestigiousā€ school…it was also a lesson and it will help me in my future!

It’s just a bit easy to lose track of that mindset right now when I’m comparing myself to other people’s results. I have a hard time not picking apart every piece of my application wondering where I went wrong.

You are going places @sukie and @lilyesh, and where you go will be lucky to have you both! These decisions are impossible to figure out!

Your whole post is how I feel, but especially this. What more do they want than a 35 ACT kid, top of the class who’s taken through calc 3 (and my grade is higher than an MIT commit graduating a year early). I’m also a varsity sport team captain with numerous regional awards, community service, choir section leader, could keep going on….but it’s still not enough.

Right! I am going test optional so that is my one disadvantage but other than that…I would say my stats make me pretty competitive. I’m getting really nervous that one of my LORs isn’t great or something.

My LORs are from my AP chem teacher who’s my COACH. like he’s more of a mentor and him and i are so close. and the other was from my english teacher, and i was one of her favorite students of all time. She got me through all of high school- would talk to her about things in my personal life. my gc also said ā€œi normally say this but im going to tell you your recommendations was one of the strongest i’ve written ever.ā€

i mean it could’ve been my essay- but isn’t the admissions process holistic? and i think my essay is overall good. and my supplements are fantastic- which is why the schools that require them that I got back waitlisted me (as opposed to rejection). ironic.
