idk how they evaluate profiles but id love to know my chances at purdue in specific and also at major universities that people apply to like UC riverside and UCLA, Caltech(dream school) Cornell and CMU
I’m curious to know why you chose these two UCs? Certainly UCLA is well known, but UCR is less known. Are you looking at it because you might have a more likely chance of admission?
Not to burst your bubble, but because you are applying for CS, all of those schools are a very high reach. I know someone with mid 1500’s SAT, 3.8 GPA, and a couple of AP’s that was turned down at Purdue, Cornell and CMU. Along with UMASS (their state school), UI, UW, and a bunch of others. Being an international student adds a whole other layer of selectivity. Especially if you are not full pay.
Maybe they will find your EC’s unique. This student did not have any meaningful EC’s. And, although I did not see them, I’m guessing this student had poor recommendations and essays.
Take a look at Purdue’s Data Digest, here: https://www.purdue.edu/datadigest/. Especially the links to “Applications, Admits, and Matriculations” and "New First-Time Beginner Profile; you should be able to glean some useful information on the statistics for admitted/matriculated students at Purdue in your areas of interest. The Data Digest can give you information for international students, as well as in-state and out-of-state (domestic U.S.) applicants.
I get your point but I wanted to understand that since I came here uk during 11th grade I couldnt take any AP’s. And plus the cultural change and stuff. Wont they take that into account?..I can give the SAT again and easily get a 1550 (i got to know about the 1420 score test date 2 hours before the test) I just wanted to know if they’d understand that I was an international student and my case is kinda weird since ive attended school both here and in India
I don’t think UC Riverside is a safety for CS. It’s an easier admit than the others you listed - but you should find a true safety or another 1-2 schools with similar or higher acceptance rates to add to your list.
I’ve never ever heard this.
I think the only place where you would qualify as a domestic student For tuition purposes is where you attend high school.
That means that whatever state you’re in for high school, is where they might consider you as a resident and give you a resident tuition status, but that may depend on how many years you’ve lived in that state and what their rules are.
For instance if you live in California, and have lived there and attended high school there for 3 years then you might qualify for in-state tuition.
Priority for admission to the UC’s has changed and is being prioritized for residents whose parents have been paying taxes in the state for years.
What does this mean? Does this mean you are an international student…but qualify for instate tuition costs on your home state? Even with that, do you understand that you are not eligible for any federally funded need based aid!
@Gumbymom are international students who graduate from CA high schools eligible for the Calgrant?
CA does not include those on non-immigrant visas in the provision allowing in state HS graduates who have attended school in state enough years to be exempt from non-resident tuition.
TX is one of the more generous states in this respect, since it allows international students to have TX residency through high school graduation after enough attendance.
Some states do not have such a provision at all, even for US citizen and permanent resident students.
okay ill reply to all the questions at once T_T.
Firstly my case is really weird. I came here in my junior year of college so I qualify as an international student. But some universities have different bounds to what they qualify as international. For example for some universities if you’re international as long as you dont hold a green card. On the other hand for some others you are international as long as you have been living for less than 4 years. I am international and full pay for most universities. Regarding the example where that person got rejected by all of the universities like CMU and UMASS and stuff. I really dont know what to say. But I for some reason think I have a pretty good chance at them because as an international student when I came here I couldnt take any AP’s because I didnt have any prerequisites. I still managed to take 4 AP courses along with 1 college level course during the Summer. I also managed to do some extra curriculars while I was here because from where I come from there is no value for extracurriculars. I also have a 4.37 GPA(weighted)
