What are you doing today?

Done with the tree! Now I can catch up with the Nationals. Watching the free ice dance replay - with a glass of Love That Red.

Started the day at 2 am when the smoke detector went off with low battery. It’s very annoying as it’s just 5 1/2 years in on what is supposed to be a 10 year alarm. Luckily my husband was still here as it needed the tall ladder. We both had a hard time falling asleep.

My husband left for a snowboarding trip this morning. It’s his annual trip with a friend. My annual tradition is cleaning out closets and drawers while he’s gone. Today I did my bathroom vanity and the large cupboards in our master bath. Several bags of trash, recycling and donate and everything looks fresh.

When I went out to the trash, I saw a turkey vulture on a low branch of a tree. Had to try to keep the dog from seeing him. It’s been smelling like skunk the past few days so I’m assuming there is one dead on our property. Definitely don’t want the dog to find the skunk. Driveway smells even worse than before I saw the vulture.

I decided I needed a memory so got out the tripod and took a picture of Jupiter from the back yard with my zoom lens. If it wasn’t such a fuss I would have gotten out the cheap telescope but I’ve seen Jupiter (and the moons) and Saturn (and the rings) when I first got it. Planets haven’t changed.

Today I changed bed linens, am doing laundry as I type, then will pack my suitcase to leave for Michigan tomorrow for a visit with my brother and SIL once laundry is done. Brother called yesterday to warn me it’s going C-O-L-D there this week.

Next up today: sorting & scanning tax documents that I’ve been throwing in a pile all year. Ugh! Plus writing thank you notes to people who have donated to my endowed scholarship fund in the past quarter.

Also on the to do list for today: clean cat water fountains & replace filters. Empty and scrub out cat litter boxes (all 3 of them) which means I need to go buy two big tubs of cat litter so I can refill them.

Mundane stuff. Nothing exciting.

When I get home– dentist appointment and a will & estate attorney meeting to update my 20 year old will, trust, healthcare POA and advanced directives. I still had minor children when the will was written so it definitely need updating.

Not much, just packing a bag for an overnight stay tomorrow in a haunted hotel in Bisbee for my BD. We’ll stop in Tombstone on the way home on Wednesday. We’ve lived in AZ 27 years and have never been to either town. DH says it’s time.

Yes, we have to make an appointment with our estate attorney too. Haven’t seen him in over a decade and need to update.

I had to start cleaning S’s room because he’s coming home soon for two weeks and it’s time! I’ve been sleeping in it while H is trying to wake less than 6x/night to pee. When I sleep in S’s room I don’t wake at all—when with H, I sometimes wake when he does.

Can’t wait for the report of the haunted destinations!

Went to the gym and had a great workout. Went to DH’s appointment with an ENT – he is an unreliable reporter of events and doesn’t remember things he’s been told. So I come as a witness. Planned to go to a Zoom meeting tonight for an organization that I’m in, but I never got the Zoom link.

An appointment with my plastic surgeon to go over the plan for the clean-up/revision to the reconstruction I had a year ago. She’s fairly certain that this will be it. I’m not looking forward to the “no strenuous exercise/lifting anything over 10lbs for at least 4 and up to 8 weeks” portion of the recovery.

A good, long nap when we got home. Stress gives me insomnia.

After starting this (second) journey almost 4 years ago, I will be so happy to be done!

Starting a road trip today. Meeting college friends back near campus for a few days. Then on to Albany to help care for a cousin who has just had a total hip replacement. Followed by a meander through NJ, PA, and MD on my way home. 10 days — here we go!

Filling the heart with friends, keeping connections, and not being home on the anniversary of DH’s death. Whew!

Sounds like it will be a cold trip! Safe travels.

Today was my long (30 mile) bike ride along the beach. The weather was gorgeous - early spring gorgeous! And the beach was mostly empty. Heaven!

New crown from the dentist. I have new insurance and even though they said they’d run it through, they didn’t (or didn’t contact me) so I was pretty shocked that my part was almost $800. When I questioned it, I learned if I got a traditional crown made in a lab (involves a second trip to the dentist to seat it) it would only be $300 so I opted for that. Then the dentist said he’d give me the ‘made while you wait’ crown for that price. I think they get paid the same and it is less work for them to do the new kids that they make while you wait.

Glad I questioned the cost. Saved $500 and I don’t have to go back again.

Dh and I took our daughter to Dulles for her flight to Rome where she is doing a semester abroad. Coincidentally she is going to the same school I went to nearly 40 years ago for my semester abroad. We plan to visit at the end of April as part of a trip to celebrate our 30th wedding anniv so I look forward to seeing how much the school has changed.

The drive home we hit so much traffic - I don’t know how people who live in No. VA deal with that on a daily basis (we live in MD). It wasn’t even prime commuting time yet (left the airport about 2:45). We ended up cutting thru DC/Capital Hill rather than take the Beltway.

Ended the evening chatting on the phone with my oldest daughter who is married and lives in San Diego. Bittersweet day here knowing both my girls are so far away, in opposite directions!

Our DIL’s new job is in Fairfax, and her commute is over an hour. This is not sustainable, so they will be moving soon to that side of the Beltway. It will be a compromise for our son’s commute to Ft. Meade, but he is often able to work remotely, so they will make do until he leaves the Army next year.

Yeah, traffic anywhere near D.C. sucks.

Nothing like starting the day with 2.5 hour flight delay….

I spent a lot of time looking out the window waiting for my plane to arrive at the gate so I could leave.

But I did arrive at my destination and I’m having a really nice visit with my brother and his wife.

Getting a good start to a full today: made a marinade for the pork chops, scheduled a dental cleaning, cleared up an account glitch at my StretchLab, addressed envelopes to send photo memories to some friends and family (rather than tossing them as part of my storage closet cleanout).

I’ll play pickleball, might get some vacuuming in, then a catch up dinner with a friend.
