Saw Gloria Estafan monitoring the preview of her new play. We enjoyed it!
Yay—the duck & ducklings have vacated our bush and found another nesting place. I’m relieved as I don’t want neighborhood cats to be attracted more than they already are to our home c
Enjoying another day of rain in our cozy cabin. DH’s BF arrives later this morning to spend the day in the shop/garage helping him make sawdust. I’ll bake last night’s risen no-knead sourdough bread dough and make a pot of fire-roasted tomato bisque and a tossed salad for lunch. Then, who knows? Hopefully, more rain.
Helping a friend who wants to make a huge donation to the charity place where I volunteer. DH and I are going over at 10 to pick up as much as we can.
Then coming home and making lasagna for an artisans guild members dinner. What a crazy choice for a HOT day…but these dinners are always fun. The owners usually provide the dinner so I’m happy to chip in this time.
Off to a brunch at a drag queen show with a group taking a friend who is having a double mastectomy next week.
Leisurely morning of coffee then will spend most of day on the beach, reading. Dinner tonight is linguini with clams followed by ice cream from our favorite local shop. A long dog walk after that.
Cleaning up the garden and patio furniture, long walk, baseball game.
Just a wonderful day of puttering, which to me means nothing on the calendar but I continue to try to make order out of chaos.
DH told me last night he will never be happy unless we get a second dog. Which I actively don’t want. I’m not sure how we compromise on that one.
And oh yeah – this happened last night. So the tree guys are coming tomorrow.
Finished cleaning this morning. Will practice piano while H lifts in the shed. Then shower and Walmart. Then, we head out of town to Williamsburg. Hopefully we will walk around the old town tonight.
Got up at my usual time only to get downstairs and realize it was an hour earlier! Oh well. I was able to take the visiting grand dog on a nice long walk before I went to the lake for yoga.
There is a large art fair in the commercial area near my house and I will probably walk up there for a bit ( without dog) this afternoon.
Meeting up with a friend for the free concert at the lake this evening, hopefully some other people will join us.
The weather this afternoon and evening has turned out to be kinda off and on rainy or threatening to rain. I skipped going to the art fair , though I did take the dog on another long walk. My friends and I decided not to chance the concert. So, not as planned.
Well, bummer.
Went with 19 people to a drag show brunch to support our friend who is having a double mastectomy (saying tata to her tatas) and now am watching the Tonys. It’s soo exciting to see one of our (meaning cc’s) very own’s daughter up on stage !! Major congrats to her and all the actors!
I finished pressure washing the deck!
Did some gardening (more like heavy duty landscaping) and are now relaxing on the freshly cleaned deck. The neighbors’ dog went crazy barking for no good reason while we were working in the yard, but a couple of dance tunes from the late nineties shut him up.
I can’t stand unnecessary barking.
This afternoon I met a friend for Golden Hour aka Happy Hour at a new place in Liberty Station. First I picked up a couple of croissants, a couple of macarons, and a baguette at my favorite French vendor in the Public Market. It was a nice visit. She also lives in the city but travels to help her daughter from time to time. So every couple of months or so, we meet.
Today, ran errands—got fresh fruit from Costco as well as some oatmeal, prunes & greens. Had a nice lunch. Went to CVS to get my specialty drug & my maintenance drug. H got a replacement hair dryer as ours is on its last legs.
He then carved out enough room in the styrofoam cooler they ship my Rx to me in so we can return the medical equipment to the dealer (we used the box he sent to mail back other equipment that we didn’t bring on this trip). H was a bit tired after carving the exact space in the cooler to fit the machine, but was able to fit in the power cords as well & I fit in the instruction manual. Dealer is sending return mailing label tomorrow so we can get this item out of our house.
I’m always happy to repurpose coolers — I get them every 4 weeks now with my biologic Rx & ice packs. We give the others to our PT who sends them with food to her H or gives them to another of her patients who uses them for keeping food fresh.
Going to Busch gardens! I normally adore roller coasters, but it’s been 5 years since I’ve been on one. I hope my body can still take them. H has long struggled with nausea - even with Dramamine, but we always had the kids to go on rides with me. Since they’ve been gone, no reason to go.
But a couple of weeks ago, H said he would like to go back and try. I hate lines - we always used to go on a weekday in late May when it was empty, but we missed that window. We asked the kids if they wanted to come, but they have a harder time taking off work, especially as older S/DIL1 just had 3 weeks off for the wedding. BUT! Younger S can come. He should be driving down shortly and will meet us at the hotel at 10.
Park opens at 11. I’m hoping that means it still won’t be unbelievably crowded. And since we are looking at a 3:30 drive back home and we have to be up at 4am tomorrow, we won’t stay past 5 at the latest.
And our second hotel room was blessedly quiet! (From the get it off your chest thread)
@ClassicMom98 my S and I were just recently talking about how we loved going to Busch Garden ( when we lived in that area)!
Have fun!
We had such good times there. Once we lucked out so much. It was a Tuesday the end of May, but most schools were still in session. We were able to park in the front row by the gate. The park was so empty the whole time, you got to know everyone in the park. It was sort of eerie. You could just hop off and on the front row of any coaster.
But what I kick myself over? We had one ride where we were the ONLY people on the Griffon. The picture was just us 4 in the front row with our hands up with the rest of the ride empty. Why I didn’t buy it, I’ll never know. (Too cheap. Back then it was a big deal for us to be able to go). But dang. That would never ever happen again.
But we were also done by 2. We had ridden everything we wanted like a dozen times.
Monday - bleh!
We got home late last night from the ball game and planned on sleeping in some but one of our smoke detectors went off in the basement. Full out went off so we rushed downstairs - no smoke, no fire, no nothing and the alarm shut it self off. We got an app notification that it needed to do an update. ARGH!
It’s also weekly chore day so laundry is going, the roomba will run, and I need to dust the house.
Top priority though is a long walk, catching up on some calls, and getting to the post office box.
Not very exciting.
