What are you doing today?

Edit to mine - we are going to the African American Smithsonian in the next hour or so. I’m excited. I’ve wanted to go but covid hit and then it was hard to get tickets. I’m surprised with Juneteenth it’s available.

Excited for you - that’s the one “haven’t done” that I want to do in DC.

It’s so good. I feel like I barely touched the surface in the hours I was there.

Heading to Costco for gas and a chicken. This afternoon we are going to a wooden boat festival at our friends boatyard. Hopefully the sun will come out while we visit beautiful yachts and sip some wine. This morning was a FaceTime with the cutest GD.

We found that when we were all in Charlotte babysitting her while D1 and SIL were at a wedding.

I enjoyed watching the grandpug yesterday, but it meant that I was home all day. She’s a dear, but she managed to find her way through a too-wide spot in the fence behind the hedge and escaped to visit the neighbors in back. They walked her back around, but that added another task on H’s to-do list.

Today H is running his boring errands and then going out with #2D and her BF to look at a few houses. Fingers crossed that one works. They both have different priorities, although BF is more likely to change his mind

I will run my own boring errands, then go to the arts festival in the city next to us. If I time it right, I’ll visit their farmers’ market at the same time.

Happy Saturday

DH is head-down working on the lower-level project, so I decided to mosey over to the town across the lake and wander the quaint little Main Street shops and Saturday farmer’s market. Picked up a few pints of fresh berries and some mint. Will start a new culture of crème fraîche for the berries later this afternoon as well as boil some mint simple syrup for mint juleps on the porch this evening.

Funny- took the grandkids to the Palo
alto children’s museum and then googled “kid friendly restaurant near me” . Picked one- and it’s turns out we are at Stanford’s student union!

Today I went to the Mermaid Parade in Coney Island. The plan was to meet my houseguests but I didn’t find them until the end when I was walking back to the subway. Many interesting costumes including body paint on men and women, floats, marching bands, much jiggling flesh, lots of fun. I’m sure our wonderful mayor was there too but I didn’t see him. It was fun to watch people screaming on the Cyclone and other rides.

Just got back from our town’s annual Pridefest. It’s always a great day with dozens of booths, they close off the Main Street, live music and great atmosphere.

My favorite thing is to read all the T Shirts!

Went to an all-day summer solstice party for a group I belong to. It was fun – talked to a lot of different people. Now I’m home and I just want to be quiet and not talk to anyone. That’s how I recuperate.

DH doesn’t understand that.

Ran errands, worked out, did a little cleaning & laundry, and walked. I sold my dining room table, so now I’ll be able to bring home the one I bought at the consignment store last week (they gave me two weeks to pick it up). H is out with some of his fraternity brothers (VERY longtime friends!), and I’m watching NCIS reruns.

We went down to Cabrillo to see what we could see of the First Ever NASCAR Race on an Active Military Base! Or something to that effect. (The press has been very excited; the people caught in traffic not so much.) The race track was on the far side of the complex so we could see parked cars, tents, and part of a grandstand, but not the track itself. Yesterday we could hear the truck races from our house. But it’s always lovely to go to Cabrillo.

One of the grandstands is under the far left hangar.

USS Carl Vinson all decorated up for the race.

We had our book club meeting by the lake so I walked up there with a friend. Ran a few errands in the afternoon, then sprayed some weed killer on my clover and started a new library book. Met a friend at the bandshell by the lake for tonight’s concert. It was a perfect day weather wise so I’m glad I was out.

Going on a garden tour today with that’s sponsored by a local garden club. I’m going with a friend in the afternoon and then having dinner at the home of my friend’s work colleague, whose garden is on the tour (there are 8 gardens in total). It’s a beautiful day and I’m looking forward to the tour.

Woke up to a beautiful sunny day. That isn’t a given during the month of June.
My husband is getting a quick tennis game in this morning. We are picking up bagels later and will meet the siblings and partners at the in-laws. My sister-in-law wanted to go out for brunch but we pointed out it’s going to be difficult as Father’s Day is a big brunch day plus the in-laws live in a tourist town.
Yesterday we got to see one local kid and his family. We spent the afternoon in the marina and took a dinghy ride. The three year old loved it.

Went for my daily trail walk. Talked to our D and her H. They seem to be really good. Definitely soaking up all of the World Cup experience

I tried to take my H out to lunch for Father’s Day. Got to the restaurant, his keys weren’t in his pocket. I have AirTags on everything, it showed both of the keys were at home. H was nervous that the keys were home even though it started so didn’t want to chance that the car wouldn’t start so we went through the subway drive through for his special lunch.

The keys sans AirTag was wedged between the seats. I’m sure it fell out of his pants pocket. I think we took off the AirTag when we took the car in for service. :woman_facepalming:

Beautiful cool, sunny day here. DH completed the built-in bunk bed frames for the new bedroom he’s building out on the lower level. He makes a lot of sawdust. I spread some bark mulch around the herb bed and then came in to make a cucumber-dill salad to go with Mediterranean chicken for dinner tonight. Just another lovely day.
