Up at the lake for yoga, then bought a coffee and walked around the lake. Spent about an hour pulling up clover in my ( very small) front yard as the weed killer I applied yesterday did nothing. I’m tired!
In a bit I will shower, throw in a bit of laundry and read a bit. Going over to D and SIL’s for dinner tonight.
Our neighbor here in the woods just spread loam over the large area in the front his cabin to plant a clover “lawn.” I guess he feels if you can’t beat it, use it.
One reason I’m pulling it out is because my ( very lovely) neighbors to the north just had their front yard sodded and it looks beautiful. I made a point of pulling out the clover next to their yard first.
Still planning to sell the house in the next year or two and rent an apartment.
Lots of people do that! Purposefully plant clover to take over in place of grass. Lower maintenance.
I just learned this year the difference between clover and wood SOREL. We have both. Sorel is edible and looks very much like clover - unless you have them side by side. Sorel has a tiny yellow flower as opposed to white.
Sometimes takes the weed spray a few days to show it’s working! Clover is hard to get rid of.
We just got home. Boo. It was a lovely day yesterday. We will head to Walmart before too long and I’ll make H his salmon cakes and cornbread for dinner. And then TV and early to bed to get up tomorrow at 3…
Long walk before the rain moved in, picked up goodies for DH at our favorite bakery, FT’d with our D, and am slow cooking pork BBQ for dinner tonight at H’s request. And now watching some soccer.
I am enjoying an extraordinary Juneteenth celebration in a community garden northeast of Chinatown proper. Live jazz, great donated food and drinks, reunion with families from my daughter’s elementary school–it’s all good.
I drove down to the beach last night after work to join Dh and my parents who came down several days ago. Spent the day at the beach today reading and napping. Tonight we are going out to dinner at my parents’ favorite local seafood place.
I got up early to make dh blueberry pancakes for FD breakfast in bed per usual, and I screwed up the recipe! Also per usual. My pancakes are just not as good as his! But today I used baking soda instead of baking powder! lol I had just enough milk left to make a half-batch for just him (hello, protein bar for me) and then the kids FT’d.They are so fun. And sweetly, ds1 and DIL asked to FT last night while they were with her parents, who we adore, and so that was an extra hour of kid and in-law time for us. We miss the kids so. I am really happy. And we’ll get to see ds2 this coming weekend. Can’t wait!
Anyway, dh found the chocolate pie I made him and devoured a piece before running out to get his present (a new drill, funded by us, but we wanted him to pick what he wanted) and now he’s at Thrifttown and going to drive through Golden Chick for a fast-food feast! I think he’s really happy. Meanwhile, I got in a workout and am watching the College World Series while making oven-roasted veggies alone in this quiet house. That all makes ME really happy.
I decided to get better organized today. Made H breakfast and the decided to sew 2 snaps on my small TJoe Tote bag. Considered magnets but decided they are not needed for now. Also finally removed the worn out velcro that’s on a bag which just snags things and doesn’t do what I want—replaced it with a flexible but sturdy wire that holds its shape and will hold my medical equipment properly so tubing doesn’t get caught or drag on ground.
Also organized my elastic and sewing odds & ends drawer that was always SO hard to open and a big mess from the beginning if COVID when we were sewing fabric masks.
Will warm up lunch and figure out how best to prepare the lamb shoulder chops for dinner.
I’m pleased the snaps were easy to add & swapping the with velcro for the wire should be just what I wanted.
It was a gorgeous day here. DH went for a LONG bike ride, something he really enjoys. I spent the afternoon at the beach club with friends. It was quite nice there too.
Came home and made chicken piccata (for the first time) for Father’s Day dinner. It was actually very tasty and will be included in our meal rotation moving forward. Now, we are just relaxing.
Both kids called to wish DH a happy Father’s Day. That made his day.
We are at an outdoor concert with our sons and the grandkids old enough to manage it (youngest is with mom at home). Younger son ran into the guy that used to live across the hall from him freshman year in college (thousands of miles from here).
DH and I took Metro North to Yankee Stadium and watched a game. It was the first baseball game I’ve been to in at least 30 years. We had a lot of fun, even though the Yankees lost. Now we’re home chilling and I’m having my quiet time to recuperate. S1 called with the grandkids to wish DH a happy father’s day.
I made Swedish pancake batter for husband (and myself) to go with the leftover lingonberry jam.
Quite a bit of the day was being the support for son to decide to apply for a new apartment; moving from the heart of Seattle to the Eastside to (a) be closer to work and (b) spend a lot less on rent. He knew what he wanted; just had to take the plunge. His application was already approved so looking good!
Speaking of plunges, I hit the pool and confirmed we have neither algae nor peeling paint. We could hear the NASCAR race cars over on Coronado from our yard. Much quieter (and less smelly) than in person, having been to one race in my life.
Back to the grind today. Hard to go to bed at 9pm after 2 days of 11pm. Up at 3am. Went to the bathroom and realized that I forgot to take my allergy medicine all weekend while visiting the kids. I brought it. I just forgot to take it. It’s probably been over 10 years that I haven’t taken meds 2 days in a row. No wonder my allergies are acting up so badly.
Workout was unsurprisingly a bit of a struggle, but it’s done. Now I’m at work. Blech. Hopefully this week will be better than last, but I’m not counting on it.
Finally trying to figure out what’s wrong with out TV system. It’s been crapping out on us slowly over the last couple of years. Had Comcast replace the box several months back. Nope. Currently it takes forever to recognize the cable, and then while streaming is perfectly fine, regular channels are pixelated - some worse than others. Watching the World Cup is interesting. Watching it on Peacock in spanish is fine, except we have no idea what they are saying. Regular channel is good until they get inside the box - then it’s awful. Of course, that’s when all the excitement happens.
I tried the different HMDI TV port - nope. Bought new HMDI cables - nope. But now I’m thinking it’s the port on the soundbar system. It’s 16 years old. Amazon had one on sale that’s the same brand of TV, so we’re going with that. If it’s not that, I’ll get comcast out to check the coaxial cable. I LOATHE tech problems - and that’s a huge understatement. Crossing my fingers this will do the trick.
Stained a ton of pine shiplap for DH to start “skinning” the bunk bed frames and begin working on his desk area. Went into town with DH to pick up some other supplies when it started to pour. It was getting late, so we decided to have lobster rolls for dinner at one of our favorite places and “listen to the rhythm of the falling rain.” Man, I love this place.
Brought #3 Grandkiddo back to son/DIL’s house and then did a big favor for a friend (long story about how we met over this particular small winery in Santa Cruz). He can apparently only drink this one particular varietal (others give him headaches no Matter what he does) so we drove up the the Santa Cruz hills (quite the drive) enjoyed the redwoods and the views, tasted some yummy wine and packed up 2 bottles for him. Good news- we had brought a carry on b/c DH can’t lift luggage into the overhead with his broken arm and I was bringing gifts and new shoes to grandkids, so had room in the luggage for the wine on the way home. He is thrilled and I guess my good deed was “rewarded” by getting upgraded to FC on my flight home. Win, win.
